3 Years Ago, the MCU Fumbled Its Best Romantic Pairing

The Marvel Cinematic Universe abounds with love stories; Tony Stark from Iron Man, while projecting a carefree image, harbors deep affection for Pepper Potts and eventually ties the knot with her, starting a family. Similarly, Captain America maintains feelings for Peggy Carter that last for decades, even after she has passed due to his 70-year freeze, and makes a time-traveling effort to reunite with her. However, the MCU also presents its fair share of heartaches alongside joyful conclusions. Guardians of the Galaxy’s Peter Quill is denied the opportunity to be with Gamora, whom he cherishes, but at least their separation has an explanation.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, some relationships don’t even get off the ground, like Hulk and Black Widow’s failed attempt at a relationship in Avengers: Age of Ultron. More recently though, the franchise paired up two characters with a deep bond, but then unexpectedly separated them for no apparent reason a couple of years ago.

She-Hulk and Daredevil Had the Chance to Be the MCU’s Best Power Couple

In a departure from the usual East Coast settings of Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, the series “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” shifts focus to Los Angeles, California, where Jennifer Walters, cousin of Bruce Banner, practices law. A fateful visit from her cousin turns chaotic when Jennifer is accidentally exposed to his blood, resulting in a transformation into She-Hulk. Struggling to reconcile her dual roles as a lawyer and a superhero, she faces initial challenges. Her courtroom battle against Matt Murdock, a New York City attorney, helps Jen accept her new circumstances. It’s revealed that they share more than just professions. Following their joint effort in taking down a crime syndicate, they spend a night together, hinting at a potential superhero power couple that might overshadow Wanda Maximoff and Vision.

In the series She-Hulk, Daredevil temporarily steps aside but makes an appearance at the family BBQ in the finale, answering questions from Jen’s father. However, when Daredevil reappears in Daredevil: Born Again, things take a turn as he continues to have feelings for Karen Page. The relationship between Daredevil and Karen becomes strained after Foggy Nelson’s passing, leading Daredevil to meet a new woman, Heather Glenn, a therapist based in New York City. Unfortunately, their relationship disintegrates when Heather accepts a job offer from Wilson Fisk. Despite the possibility of reconciliation, it would be wiser for Daredevil to contact Jen, especially given his current predicament.

The MCU Can Still Make Another Daredevil and She-Hulk Team-Up Happen

In the Marvel series “Born Again,” Matt, for larger concerns, doesn’t discuss his past in Los Angeles. Mayor Fisk introduces radical policies in New York City, and the one causing the most havoc is the establishment of the Anti-Vigilante Task Force. This task force isn’t only after those wearing masks but anyone viewed as a threat by the mayor. In the Season 1 finale, Daredevil decides to rally an army to combat this, inviting Karen and some sympathetic cops. For Season 2, Jessica Jones will join Daredevil, but it would be strategic for him to also involve Karen’s sister, Jennifer, who seems eager to aid in the fight against the mayor’s actions. Despite feeling hurt by Matt’s absence, she won’t stand idly by while innocent people suffer harm.

When Daredevil and She-Hulk reunite, it’s likely that there will be a lot of excitement generated, not just from the firepower of AVTF’s weapons, but also from their dynamic interaction. This reunion could serve as an effective promotional strategy leading up to the next two Avengers films. Regrettably, at present, neither character has been confirmed to feature in either of these movies. If bringing them back together is necessary to highlight them more prominently, then there’s no reason to delay it.
