Right before the reveal trailer for “Lords of the Fallen 2” at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live event, its developer, CI Games, has hinted that the sequel is their “Empire Strikes Back.” In an interview with Mp1st, David Valjalo, the creative portfolio strategist, made this comparison to the second film from the original Star Wars trilogy by stating that Lords of the Fallen 2 will be a darker game.
For those players who didn’t experience the original Star Wars trilogy, Valjalo made connections to the Christopher Nolan-directed Batman films, specifically The Dark Knight from 2008. This movie is part of a trilogy that began with Batman Begins in 2005 and concluded with The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.
Valjalo expressed his excitement, saying we’re exactly where we should be in production and things are shaping up wonderfully for the sequel. He’s been granted a peek behind the curtain, and he’s consistently blown away by the art, animation, action sequences – each day revealing something truly jaw-dropping. He describes it as intense, daring, and authentic, a true sequel that surpasses the original while preserving its essence. The game also delves deeper into darkness with an extraordinary setting and even more daunting challenges than before. In essence, he compares it to ‘Empire Strikes Back’ for older audiences, or for Gen Z, it’s akin to ‘The Dark Knight.’
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been hooked on Lords of the Fallen ever since it dropped in 2023, marking its grand return as a reboot from 2014. This game has been a real hit, earning both critical acclaim and commercial success. In fact, just recently, CI Games announced that over 5.5 million players have jumped into the action across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S since its launch!
Mournstead shines more brilliantly than ever before, boasting over 5.5 million Lampbearers globally,” stated the studio on social media. “Your unwavering loyalty, insights, and enthusiasm have been instrumental in molding Lords of the Fallen into its current form… and the thrilling journey that lies ahead. In light of your support, we move forward!
Following its initial debut, CI Games consistently provided updates for the game Lords of the Fallen, including an extensive array of post-release content. One of the most significant among these was the Version 2.0 update, which the studio described as the Definitive Edition of the game. This update introduced a variety of new elements, such as shared progression for cooperative play, as well as enhancements to the core combat system.
Just recently, “Lords of the Fallen” received another update alongside a permanent platform-wide price reduction, lowering its cost to $29.99. This update reintroduced the Unlocked Classes feature, enhanced animations across the game, and added new PvP mode rewards.
In January, the studio described their ongoing support for “Lords of the Fallen” as a calculated decision, explaining that such support increases the game’s player base by selling more copies and fostering positive sentiment from the audience for upcoming launches.
The studio called their persistent effort on “Lords of the Fallen” a strategic action in January. They explained this approach helps sell more games, expand the player community, and build goodwill among the audience for future projects.
