In simpler terms, as of August 19, 2025, the top-rated spinoff from “The Walking Dead” will no longer be available on Netflix in the U.S., which means fans who root for Rick Grimes and Michonne may struggle to catch up on their latest escapades together. The duo, portrayed by Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, initially bonded during season 3 of “The Walking Dead”, and their relationship, both romantic and strong, developed over the course of the series until their departures in seasons 9 and 10 respectively. One of the spinoffs revived the cherished pair, but if you haven’t already watched this reunion, you may have missed your opportunity.
As a devoted fan, I’m sad to share that starting August 19, 2025, the critically acclaimed spinoff of The Walking Dead, titled “The Ones Who Live,” will no longer be available on Netflix in the US. This series, which premiered on AMC and AMC+ on February 25, 2024, has been hailed as the standout among its peers, boasting an impressive 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
In comparison, other spinoffs like “Tales of the Walking Dead,” “Fear the Walking Dead,” “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’s,” and “The Walking Dead: World Beyond” have ratings of 74%, 73%, 71%, 69%, and 46% respectively. Many fans and critics consider “The Ones Who Live” to be the cream of the crop in this zombie-filled universe. So, if you haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, I strongly recommend catching up before it leaves Netflix!
In “The Walking Dead,” six years after being captured by the Civic Republic Military in season 9’s episode 5 titled “What Comes After,” Rick Grimes persistently tries to break free and communicate with his folks, assuring them he’s still alive. At the same time, following a message received during season 10’s episode 13 called “What We Become,” Michonne remains dedicated to finding Rick. The mini-series “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” reunites them after six episodes, where they collaborate to tackle the CRM and its manipulative leader Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh), ultimately reshaping the organization from within.
In “Those Who Survive,” we delve into a self-contained tale that brings Rick and Michonne together on a mission to unmask the CRM and fundamentally change the Civic Republic. Their efforts aim to convert this organization into one that offers assistance to other surviving communities, instead of annihilating them, as was previously the case. This also allows free passage in and out of Philadelphia. With these events unfolding, Rick and Michonne are able to make their way back home in the finale of “The Walking Dead: Those Who Survive,” and Rick is finally reunited with his daughter, Judith (Cailey Fleming), as well as meeting his son, RJ, for the first time.
After “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” departs from Netflix in the U.S., you’ll only be able to stream it on AMC or AMC+ within the country. However, it can be found on different streaming platforms in other parts of the world, such as NOW in the UK. Sadly, finding this exceptional spinoff of “The Walking Dead” may prove challenging in the U.S.
On a positive note, the “The Walking Dead” franchise isn’t ending anytime soon. New seasons featuring characters like Daryl Dixon and Dead City are on the horizon. Additionally, another anthology show titled “More Tales from the Walking Dead Universe” is in development, so there’s plenty more excitement to come!
