Zane Wach is on the mend.
Approximately two months following a harrowing incident where a 14-year-old boy fell from Mount Whitney in California due to altitude sickness, there was news released about his current health status by him and his loved ones.
In an interview with NBC Los Angeles on August 17, Zane expressed that he was feeling great, but mentioned that standing caused him a slight discomfort.
After his fall from a height of 120 feet in June, landing on hard granite, the young man (now out of the hospital) found himself needing to relearn basic skills such as walking, talking, and eating.
For Zane’s dad Ryan Wach, he told the outlet that he still sees the moment when he closes his eyes.
He mentioned, “‘Dad, it seems I’m seeing things that aren’t there. Look at those small white patches below, they appear like snowmen. And over there, those green lakes seem to be Kermit the Frog and his friends,’ he said. But now he’s hallucinating, and I can’t persuade him to continue hiking, and I’m unsure of what to do.
He paused, wiping away his own tears, then spoke again. ‘I’m not sure what my next move should be,’ he said, watching as the other man stepped off the edge, seemingly heading towards a car. I let out a terrified scream; I thought he was gone for good. It was beyond me how he could have survived such a fall.
Ryan mentioned that him and Zane endured a wait of approximately six hours until search and rescue teams found them, after which they were helicoptered to the children’s emergency hospital located in Las Vegas, which is roughly 240 miles to the east.
In simpler terms, he pointed out that having his son on a ventilator for more than two weeks in the hospital actually provided some ease, given the son’s safety during this time.
Meanwhile, Zane’s mom Leann Wach revealed that they will be returning to the summit in the future.
She shared with NBC L.A., “If we let fear dictate every decision and make us avoid taking risks because something didn’t go as planned once, life would not offer much variety. Such a life is not livable for us.
Despite Zane’s notable advancements, unfortunately, he won’t be going back to his school at this time. As a dedicated swimmer and cross-country runner, he’s focusing on his recovery under the guidance of his physical therapists instead.
As Zane continues to heal, keep reading to learn about more shocking accidents.
In February 2017, Jamie Lynn Spears’ then-8-year-old child, Maddie Aldridge, was operating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) close to their house in Louisiana. Unfortunately, she overturned the ATV into a pond and remained submerged underwater for several minutes.
Jamie Lynn recounted on a 2020 episode of the Maria Menounos ‘Better Together’ podcast that, after managing to pull her out of the water, she and others believed their daughter had drowned. They feared they had lost her.
Two days later, Maddie regained consciousness and began conversing, even though the family wasn’t entirely clear about the extent of the damage at first. About three weeks on, she returned to her usual daily activities.
In Jamie Lynn’s words, “God graced me with the gift of reuniting me with my daughter, who I had previously lost and then found again.
During the filming of the 2025 action comedy “Bride Hard,” starring Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp, an unexpected incident occurred on the final day of Rebel’s secret agent scenes. As she recounted in an interview with Access Hollywood in June 2025, a gun accidentally struck her face during a fight scene, causing her nose to bleed. She had to leave set, as it was her last night of shooting, and she jokingly lamented, “What kind of bad luck is this?
In a pool of her own blood, she confessed about the 2023 incident: “I was truly alarmed,” she said. “An ambulance was called and a plastic surgeon had to be summoned. Otherwise, I would have been left permanently disfigured. Fortunately, the plastic surgeon performed the necessary stitches, leaving no trace of it now.
Tonight Show’s presenter Jimmy Fallon had a close call with losing a finger when he accidentally fell at home. In an attempt to break his fall, he grabbed onto the kitchen counter, but his ring got caught in the process, forcefully removing his finger from it.
The term he used was “ring avulsion.” This injury left him confined to the hospital for ten days while the doctors tirelessly attempted to avoid the need for amputation.
A seasoned athlete, specializing in long-distance races, swimming, and triathlons named Zane Wach, almost succumbed to altitude sickness during a hike with his father Ryan Wach on Mount Whitney, California, in June 2025.
Ryan told SFGATE that the 14-year-old began having visions, which he himself recognized as such. He described seeing peculiar images like snowmen and Kermit the Frog.
Ryan repeatedly prevented his teenager from stepping over the cliff edge on several occasions during their descent along the trail. “He seemed to be in an unusual mental condition, and we’re still unsure of what triggered it,” the father explained. “My assumption is a mix of fatigue, lack of sleep, potential dehydration, and lingering effects from altitude sickness. Essentially, he began to question the very reality around him.
On the third try, Ryan couldn’t reach Zane fast enough as he tumbled from a height of around 120 feet off a cliff. Following a six-hour wait for an Inyo County Search & Rescue helicopter to arrive and transport Zane to Southern Inyo Hospital in Lone Pine, they managed to stabilize him before transferring him to a pediatric trauma center in Las Vegas. Eventually, he was put into a medically induced coma, but eventually started breathing on his own.
After three unsuccessful attempts, Ryan wasn’t close enough to prevent Zane from plummeting approximately 120 feet off a cliff. Six hours later, an Inyo County Search & Rescue helicopter came and took Zane to Southern Inyo Hospital in Lone Pine, where they stabilized him before transferring him to a pediatric trauma center in Las Vegas. Eventually, he was placed into a medically induced coma, but eventually began breathing independently.
Ryan implied that their situation will eventually become a survival story, given their teenager’s multiple injuries including head trauma, a broken finger, ankle, and fractured pelvis. However, he emphasized that they are currently in the midst of dealing with these challenges.
On the first day of 2023, actor Jeremy Renner, famous for his role in Avengers, found himself assisting with a predicament as he used a snowplow to free a truck trapped in the snow outside his home in Lake Tahoe. Unfortunately, following his exit from the machine, an accident occurred while he was attempting to prevent the plow from hitting his nephew. This unfortunate incident resulted in Jeremy Renner sustaining 38 broken bones.
In his 2025 memoir titled “My Next Breath,” he wrote that as he lay frozen on the ice, his heart began to beat slower. That New Year’s Day, while his daughter, sisters, friends, father, and mother remained oblivious, he simply grew too weary. In simpler terms, he explained that after approximately thirty minutes of manually breathing on the ice, an exertion akin to doing multiple push-ups per minute for half an hour… that’s when he passed away.
Struggling against fractured bones, excessive blood loss, and the imminent danger of hypothermia, he penned, “I believe I passed away-in fact, I’m certain of it.” Upon the arrival of EMTs, they observed that my heart rate had fallen to a critical 18 beats per minute, at which point one is essentially beyond resuscitation.
Emilie Kiser, a popular TikToker, and her husband Brady Kiser were thrust into an unbearable situation when their 3-year-old son Trigg accidentally fell into their swimming pool at their residence in Arizona during May 2025.
On May 12th, the Chandler Police Department stated they responded to an emergency call at a house due to a child who had been found unconscious in a backyard pool. Officers, along with firefighters, performed CPR at the scene and transported the toddler to Chandler Regional Hospital. Regrettably, the child passed away six days later.
Later on, Emilie chose to take legal action against Maricopa County’s public authorities in an attempt to prevent disclosure of information regarding her deceased loved one. According to the court filing, she is primarily doing this for the sake of supporting her surviving son, Theodore, who is only two months old. Every day seems like a struggle for her.
Dr. Cara Hodgson’s family trip to Thailand turned into the most harrowing 10 days of her life when she was electrocuted by power lines in December 2023. Following a fainting spell and a frantic rush to the emergency room, the influencer spent the subsequent week and a half shuttling between hospitals, battling to regain her strength and fighting for survival, as she shared in an Instagram post on New Year’s Day. “I am incredibly fortunate to be alive today.
Through this ordeal, the orthodontist discovered a fresh reason to grin despite the discomfort. Reflecting on the experience, Cara emphasized a lesson that seems worth repeating when we get lost in minor details: Life itself is an extraordinary gift, as it allows us to breathe, eat, speak, and move – these simple pleasures deserve our appreciation and gratitude.
Sadly, a tragedy unfolded in June 2025 when the Brazilian tourist, Juliana Marins, was traversing Mount Rinjani, an active volcano in Indonesia. During her hike, she lost her footing and tumbled down a steep cliff (not into the volcano’s crater). Over the course of four days, a team of 48 search and rescue personnel faced challenging weather, rough terrain, and poor visibility conditions in the area before ultimately discovering Juliana’s remains. The Brazilian government shared this information in an official statement.
Today, the rescue team successfully located where Juliana Marins was. Regrettably, we must share the heartbreaking news that she did not make it. We are deeply moved by the outpouring of prayers, affectionate messages, and support you’ve sent our way.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it as follows: In 2015, at a festive Easter brunch I attended at Benihana, the famous Japanese restaurant, I unfortunately took a spill and my right arm came into contact with one of their Hibachi grills. Following this incident, I required skin grafts for treatment and, in due course, decided to take legal action against the establishment.
She explained in a 2024 episode of her podcast, “9021OMG” alongside Jennie Garth, that she had to undergo a skin graft, using skin from her leg. This means she’s essentially wearing part of her thigh on her arm. It might sound odd, but it’s not a joke – due to severe burns, she needed a thin layer of her thigh for her arm.
At France’s Rock&Cars festival in June 2024, comedian Tony Knight tragically lost his life when two large tree branches fell on him. His sister-in-law, Joanne Allen, who was Hayley Wright’s longtime partner, mourned his untimely demise on GoFundMe. She described him as a vibrant 54-year-old enjoying the best of times. “He was in excellent health, brimming with joy, and had a promising future ahead,” she wrote. “Tony was charismatic, humorous, passionate, and full of life.
indeed, deeply cherished by his lifelong companion, Haley penned in her Instagram post that “he was a multi-talented individual, brimming with skills.” She continued to express that “there wasn’t anything he couldn’t accomplish. He was a wonderful friend to countless others, a devoted pet parent to many dogs… but above all, he was my universe and its absence will forever feel surreal.
In January 2024, a tragic accident occurred during Vistex’s planned 25th anniversary celebration in India. The CEO, Sanjay Shah, and president, Vishwanath Raju Datla, were supposed to be lowered from an iron cage onto a platform during the festivities. However, two wires broke, causing them to fall onto the concrete stage instead, as reported by The Times of India.
As a devoted admirer, I’m shattered to share that our beloved Sanjay, aged 56, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital after the unfortunate accident, as reported in the news. Heartbreaking as it is, Vishwanath, who was 52, endured a critical head injury and unfortunately left us months afterward.
In a 2022 Instagram video shared alongside UNICEF, Orlando Bloom revealed that when he was 19 years old, he tumbled from a three-story window and fractured his spine. While out with friends, he had attempted to ascend the rooftop terrace via a drainpipe, which unfortunately gave way. Despite sustaining several broken vertebrae in his back, he considers himself fortunate to have survived due to the fact that his spinal cord remained undamaged.
Initially, he shared that during his hospital stay, doctors informed him that he might never walk again, a devastating revelation. This marked the start of a protracted and challenging period for him as he began to uncover and comprehend patterns in his life that had contributed to multiple accidents. The climax of this insightful process was when he suffered a back injury, an experience that brought him close to death.
After departing from the hospital encased in a back brace, plagued by both physical and emotional agony, he divulged to GQ in 2005 that he immediately resumed partying. “Even with the back brace on,” he said, “I carried on celebrating.” It wasn’t until a couple of months later that it dawned on him: “This is my life, and I don’t want to ruin it.
He remarked that the experience has significantly influenced all aspects of his life. “It isn’t until you come close to losing it that you truly understand,” he said, reflecting on his past behavior. “Previously, I would ride motorbikes and drive cars as if every road was a racetrack; it was quite reckless. It wasn’t for the sake of being trendy; I simply enjoyed living dangerously. However, I’ve calmed down now.
