The movie “Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Infinity Castle” was predicted to reign supreme at Japanese box offices, but with its upcoming release in U.S. theaters just weeks away, it’s already making a splash on American soil. This film marks the beginning of a new trilogy by Ufotable for the “Demon Slayer” anime series, which is why excitement is high for this initial installment, and U.S. fans are expressing their eagerness online.
The 2022 movie titled “Mugen Train” soared to the peak of Japan’s box office charts, earning the title of Japan’s highest-grossing film in history. It also generated nearly $50 million within its domestic market. With an immense wave of anticipation for “Infinity Castle,” the film is predicted to surpass this figure with ease, as it has already set a new record for ticket sales.
Infinity Castle Breaks a Gigantic Ticket Sales Record
Tickets for the opening weekend of “Infinity Castle” are now available on Fandango, and the demand has been extraordinary! In just 24 hours after they went on sale, “Infinity Castle” broke the record for the highest first-day ticket pre-sales for any anime movie, though the exact sales figure remains undisclosed.
The previous record was held by “Mugen Train,” with “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” in second place (now third). However, it’s anticipated that “Infinity Castle” will surpass “Mugen Train’s” $500 million worldwide box office earnings. This new achievement is just one of many records that “Infinity Castle” has broken since its release in Japanese theaters.
Fandango Comments on Infinity Castle‘s Success
Together with the news that Infinity Castle has broken Fandango’s anime pre-sale record, Jerramhy Hainline, EVP of Fandango, issued a statement acknowledging the movie’s remarkable achievement. “We are astounded by the immense enthusiasm for the debut of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, as demonstrated by the enormous number of tickets sold on its first day,” the statement read. “The phenomenal reception is a clear indication of the anime fanbase’s influence, and we are incredibly proud to assist in bringing anime to theaters, allowing fans to enjoy it on the big screen.
The “Infinity Castle” made its premiere in Japan during July. Starting September 12th, it will screen in US theaters. Derived from the popular manga by Koyoharu Gotoge, the movie continues the storyline post the conclusion of the Hashira Training Arc, an event that resulted in the Ubuyashiki Mansion’s destruction and the Hashiras being drawn into the Infinity Castle to confront Muzan.
