SWERY and Suda51 have revealed their latest creation, a game named “Hotel Barcelona.” A fresh trailer showcases the duo discussing the game’s narrative and its innovative gameplay, which combines various genres to immerse players in the eerie atmosphere of 80s horror films. Take a look at it below.
Although the gameplay of this side-scrolling action game may appear rather conventional at first glance, SWERY reveals an intriguing twist: the game incorporates distinctive death mechanics. These mechanics serve not only to help players progress by leveling up and growing stronger, but also enable them to team up with their past incarnations during battles.
The “Hotel Barcelona” is often referred to as a blend of parody-horror, roguelike, and slasher genres. SWERY, its creator, mentioned that the game’s setting draws inspiration from ’80s horror films. In this game, players will encounter not only typical enemies but also some of America’s most infamous serial killers who have assembled at the “Hotel Barcelona”.
The game titled “Hotel Barcelona” is currently being constructed to run on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with an expected launch happening towards the end of this year. Notably, whispers about this game began as early as 2020.
