The fresh DC Universe, spearheaded by James Gunn and producer Peter Safran, has taken flight! Already, the first seasons of shows like “Creature Commandos” and “Superman,” both penned by Gunn, have been launched. “Peacemaker” season 2, also masterminded by Gunn, is scheduled to premiere on Aug. 21 on HBO Max. Since taking charge of DC towards the end of 2022, they’ve released the documentary “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” and the Emmy-nominated series “The Penguin.” Their calendar is brimming with more projects slated for release in 2026 and beyond.
The initial lineup of DC Universe (DCU) releases, titled “Gods and Monsters,” proceeds with the films “Supergirl” (June 26, 2026) and “Clayface” (Sept. 11, 2026). In addition, Matt Reeves’ sequel to “The Batman,” produced by DC Studios but not part of the DCU continuity, is planned for October 1, 2027. On the television front, HBO introduces “Lanterns,” which follows the adventures of the DCU Green Lanterns Corps. Meanwhile, DC Studios are working on the adult animated series “Mister Miracle” and younger-oriented shows such as “DC’s Super Powers,” “Starfire!”, and “My Adventures with Green Lantern.
James Gunn Gives DCU Movies Update
Discussing their upcoming DC Universe project, Gunn provided an update during the latest episode of the “I Think You’re Overthinking It” podcast, as ‘Supergirl’ wraps up production and ‘Clayface’ starts filming soon.
Gunn hinted that the upcoming movie they’ll be producing is likely a sequel to the original Superman film. He didn’t want to reveal too many details about it, but it seems like that’s the next project in line. However, he hopes they’ll make The Batman 2 before that and then follow up with the Superman sequel.”
Here, I’ve attempted to simplify the sentence structure while retaining the original meaning and sequence of events.
Tyrell has made it clear that his continuation of the Superman story isn’t the movie “Superman 2,” but one where David Corenswet’s Man of Steel plays a significant part. However, in a more recent conversation, Tyrell stated he’s now “working on the script for the next Superman film.
Gunn mentioned another unrecognized television program that’s set to air next. He went on to say that there’s a lot more in various stages of production as well. However, it’s uncertain if this series is part of the two speculated Superman spinoffs starring Skyler Gisondo and Edi Gathegi as Jimmy Olsen and Mr. Terrific.”
This version maintains the original information while using simpler and more natural language.
In addition to “The Batman Part II”, another DCU movie featuring a different Dark Knight (not portrayed by Robert Pattinson) called “The Brave and the Bold” is upcoming, along with a new “Wonder Woman” film in developmental stages. Previously announced projects include the HBO Max series “Paradise Lost” and “Booster Gold”, with the latter now progressing under the leadership of David Jenkins following Danny McBride’s departure as showrunner for “Our Flag Means Death”.
According to Gunn, ‘The Brave and The Bold’, ‘Wonder Woman’, ‘Paradise Lost’, and ‘Booster Gold’ are all progressing nicely. He mentioned that while some changes have been made to ‘The Authority’, most of these projects are currently under development.
The filmmaker and executive have emphasized that the upcoming DC Studios projects will be centered around scripts, and they’ve made it clear that they won’t start working on any of these productions unless they are satisfied with the script.
I’m thrilled to share that the digital version of DC Studio’s Superman is now up for rent or purchase! And if you’re a fan of Peacemaker, mark your calendars as we gear up for season 2, starting August 21, exclusively on HBO Max.
