2024’s remastered edition of Ys X: Nordics, published by NIS America, will not be launched on the PS5 but instead will be available for the Switch 2 and PC systems.
Upon unveiling Ys X: Proud Nordics by developer Falcom towards the end of last year, there was considerable backlash – particularly from Western audiences, who had recently experienced the original game’s release outside of Japan on both PS5 and PS4 for the first time.
In that context, at the time, the studio referred to Proud Nordics as an enhanced or improved version of the action RPG. Consequently, several observers expressed concerns about this approach, claiming it might not align with their support for such business practices.
Here we are, approximately nine months on, and Proud Nordics is set for a western release in early 2026, but sadly, unlike its original counterpart, it won’t be available on PlayStation 5. This strange journey continues to be quite intriguing.
While it’s not definitive that a PlayStation 5 version won’t come eventually, it’s also possible that NISA is leveraging the momentum of the Nintendo Switch 2 to maximize its market reach.
