Peacemaker Season 2 Possibly Reveals Jared Leto’s Joker’s Fate in the DCU

In a hint at potential developments for Jared Leto’s character, Peacemaker Season 2 subtly referenced his role as The Joker in the revamped DC Universe. Previously, Leto played the iconic villain in the films Suicide Squad (2016) and Justice League (2021), both directed by Zack Snyder. However, with the introduction of the new DC Universe, there has been no official announcement about Leto’s Joker’s future within the DC world.

Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 1 hints Jared Leto’s turn as the Joker is over

In Peacemaker’s second season premiere, an amusing remark sparked excitement among viewers, apparently aiming at actor Jared Leto who had previously portrayed The Joker in the DCEU. Some fans even speculated that this joke could hint towards Leto’s potential future role as The Joker within DC.

In the first episode, during a conversation, John Cena’s character, Christopher Smith (alias Peacemaker), finds himself in a situation where Emilia Harcourt has damaged a car’s dashboard with her fists. Referencing the music that was playing in the car and the band 30 Seconds to Mars, Chris jokingly says, “Previously, I was in this very car listening to Spin Doctors or Thirty Seconds to Mars, or something similar, ready to give it a good whack. But it seems you two were getting along just fine.” However, Harcourt quickly corrects him, stating emphatically, “I certainly do not have a friendly relationship with 30 Seconds to Mars – how audacious of you!

In the extra scene after the episode ended, Harcourt commented, “It’s not right to mix Spin Doctors with Thirty Seconds to Mars. Spin Doctors are fantastic!” To which Smith retorted, “Goodness gracious, anyone’s better than Thirty Seconds to Mars. The band I was in for a blink of an eye outperforms Thirty Seconds to Mars.

As a diehard fan, I can’t help but fuel the excitement when I see jokes about Jared Leto’s band in James Gunn’s series, a man who shares the reins as co-CEO of DC. These playful jabs have sent fans into a speculative frenzy, hinting at the possibility that Leto’s Joker may not reappear in the DC Universe.

In 2021, when asked by The New York Times, Gunn explained why he chose not to include Leto’s Joker in his version of Suicide Squad. He stated that the character wouldn’t be effective in a war-like scenario.
