According to a new report from a trustworthy Nintendo source, a critically acclaimed game originally released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2013 is being remade for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. While it was later available on the Wii U, this would mark only the second time the game has appeared on a Nintendo platform.
After weeks of speculation, Ubisoft has officially announced a remake of their 2013 game, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Called Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the updated game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X on July 9th. While Ubisoft hasn’t mentioned a version for the Nintendo Switch 2, a reliable Nintendo insider, Nash Weedle, suggests one is being developed. However, it’s unlikely to be ready for the initial launch, as Ubisoft would have likely announced it alongside the other versions.
One of the Best Assassin’s Creed Games
Whenever gamers debate the best Assassin’s Creed titles, it almost always comes down to Assassin’s Creed 2 and Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood. But Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag often gets mentioned too, which is cool. It’s the sixth main game, and honestly, where it fits in the overall story is a little confusing. It’s set historically before Assassin’s Creed III, but the bits where you play in the present day actually happen after the present-day story of Assassin’s Creed III.
When it launched, the Ubisoft game received an 88 on Metacritic and quickly sold over 11 million copies within its first year, making it a major hit of 2013. This game proved the Assassin’s Creed series was still at the height of its popularity.
Currently, it’s unclear if the PC version will work on the Steam Deck. This means the Nintendo Switch 2 might be the only handheld option for playing the game. Even without official Steam Deck verification, it’s likely the game will still run well on the device.
Keep in mind that this information should be viewed with some skepticism. Nash Weedle is usually a trustworthy source, but he isn’t always right, and things can always change. Ubisoft hasn’t responded to requests for comment, and we don’t expect them to. However, if they do, we’ll be sure to update this article with their statement.
