New 2025 Dinosaur Movie Beats Six Jurassic Park & World Movies on Rotten Tomatoes

A fresh dinosaur film that roared into cinemas this summer is putting up a strong fight against the Jurassic Park series. The 1993 original Jurassic Park movie, directed by Steven Spielberg, shook up the film world with its innovative application of computer-generated imagery (CGI) and animatronics to create the colossal and fearsome dinosaurs. To this day, it stands as one of the most successful summer blockbusters ever made and kickstarted a highly profitable movie franchise. However, a new film released in 2025 is largely surpassing many titles within the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World series on Rotten Tomatoes.

Luke Sparke’s film “Primitive War” made its debut in August and received a favorable rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Adapted from Ethan Pettus’ 2017 novel, the movie stars Ryan Kwanten, Tricia Helfer, Nick Wechsler, and Jeremy Piven. Set in a Vietnam jungle valley during 1968, the film tells the story of a group of American soldiers who find themselves under attack by dinosaurs while on a rescue mission for a US Army Special Forces platoon. With an audience score of 90%, this movie outshines all but the original “Jurassic Park” (1993) in the “Jurassic Park” series.

The film titled “Primitive War” boasts an impressive 90% rating, significantly outshining the lowest-rated “Jurassic Park” film, the 2001 release “Jurassic Park III“, which has a mere 37% audience score. Even compared to the latest addition to the franchise, “Jurassic World Rebirth“, it still manages to excel, as it was released in theaters in July and received an audience score of 71%. The film features Scarlett Johansson as its lead star.

Despite the fact that Primitive War received a critic’s score of 50%, it managed to surpass the ratings of three Jurassic Park films. These include Jurassic Park III with a score of 49%, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom from 2018 with 47%, and Jurassic World Dominion from 2022 with a low score of 29%.

The film titled “Primitive War” was recently released in cinemas on August 21, 2025, making it relatively new in theaters. This means that there’s still some flexibility for its Rotten Tomatoes ratings to fluctuate, potentially influencing its position compared to the Jurassic Park and World series movies.

What Does Primitive War Get Right?

The film, titled “Primitive War,” may not have achieved the legendary status of “Jurassic Park” just yet, but it certainly delivers on multiple fronts. Unlike its counterpart, which primarily focuses on dinosaurs, “Primitive War” intertwines the fear-inducing presence of these ancient creatures with the intense combat scenes reminiscent of the Vietnam War. This blend results in a narrative that’s both brutal and terrifying, offering an action-packed cinematic experience from start to finish.

“Primitive War” has garnered recognition for its stunning visual effects and remarkably realistic dinosaur designs as well.
