Billy Ray Cyrus Reveals Miley Cyrus Wrote Him a Song for His Birthday

Billy Ray Cyrus won’t have an achy breaky heart this Virgo season. 

In the end, it was revealed that the country musician (who celebrated his 64th birthday on August 25) received a musical gift from his daughter, Miley Cyrus, on his special day.

On my birthday, Miley presented me with a musical gift and composed a song titled ‘Secrets’. She even managed to get Fleetwood Mac, my favorite band, to play on it! This is what Billy Ray shared on his Instagram post, where he’s seen enjoying the melodious tune in a field. ‘I love you Mile.’

Through the mellow tones reminiscent of the ’80s, a woman aged 32 invites her partner to confide in her, expressing her desire to serve as a secure and comforting sanctuary for them.

As a faithful confidant, I vow to safeguard your secrets,

Just as sunlight whispers through the darkness,
Or footprints that dance upon the grass,

The actress who became famous for her role in “Hannah Montana” hasn’t yet made the new song “Secrets” public, but she revealed that it stems from a strained past relationship with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus. Troubles arose between him and his family after his divorce from ex-wife Tish Cyrus in 2022, with whom he shares children Brandi (38), Trace (36), Braison (31), and Noah (25).

She shared on Monica Lewinsky’s Reclaiming podcast on June 10th that she wrote a song about her father. Her intention was to become the person he felt secure confiding in, regarding secrets that were hurtful to the family. She wanted him to believe, as a middle child, she was mature enough to handle some of those difficult truths.

As someone deeply committed to my mother amidst our parents’ separation, I understood that the tension between us, which had been growing for a decade, would persist if no effort was made towards reconciliation. Consequently, I took the initiative to establish peace.

“I simply charged through the obstacles and declared, ‘I’m here, you’re here. Let’s begin by enjoying each other’s company,'” I said. “Once we started introducing happiness and joy into our lives, we would then be in a better position to address difficult conversations. For me, it’s essential to create balance first.

Billy Ray Cyrus married Tish Cyrus (née Leticia Finley) on Dec. 28, 2003.

At that point in time, they had already shared a 12-month-old daughter named Destiny Hope Cyrus, better known as Miley Cyrus, and Tish was expecting their son Braison Cyrus, who was born on the 9th of May, 1994.

Approximately seven months prior to Miley being born on November 23, 1992, Billy Ray’s former partner Kristin Luckey welcomed their son Christopher Cody Cyrus into the world on April 8th.

When Billy Ray Cyrus, famous for “Achy Breaky Heart,” wed Tish, he took on the role of stepfather to Brandi Cyrus (born May 26, 1987) and Trace Cyrus (Feb. 24, 1989). These children were born to Tish from her previous marriage with Baxter Helson, serving as their biological father.

Tish and Billy Ray’s youngest, daughter Noah Cyrus, was born Jan. 8, 2000.

Throughout those exhilarating years from 2006 to 2010, I couldn’t help but feel completely captivated and starstruck as Billy Ray Cycles into the scene, embodying the beloved father of Miley Stewart – the remarkable pop-star-in-disguise character on the Disney Channel’s hit sitcom, “Hannah Montana”. And when the movie adaptation graced our screens in 2009, well, let’s just say my adoration for Billy Ray knew no bounds!

As long as the Cyrus family resided in Nashville, Billy Ray and Miley decided to relocate to Los Angeles to launch Miley’s individual career in entertainment.

In October 2010, Billy Ray and Tish announced their separation, however, by the next year, they had reconciled once more.

In June of 2013, my partner and I found ourselves at a crossroads, filing for divorce. However, within just a few weeks, we reconsidered our decision. We sought help through couples counseling and were pleasantly surprised by the positive impact it had on our relationship. It’s been an enlightening journey so far, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work through our challenges together.

Before their reconciliation, following the revelation that her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, filed for divorce in Nashville court after 19 years of marriage, Miley posted on Twitter: “Since your texts and emails seem to be failing, would you prefer to chat this way instead, Dad?

Following their joint appearance in the 2010 movie “The Last Song” and an on-and-off relationship spanning a decade, Miley and Liam Hemsworth tied the knot in December 2018, shortly after their Malibu residence was destroyed by fire.

The decision was made, as Miley shared in her “Used to Be Young” TikTok series, from a point of trauma and an urgent need to rebuild swiftly.

But Liam filed for divorce in August 2019 and they finalized the paperwork in January 2020.

The source shared that the situation is actually quite straightforward. They fell in love as young individuals, but have since evolved into distinct persons.

Braison and his wife Stella Cyrus welcomed son Bear Chance Cyrus on June 8, 2021. 

Tish filed for divorce fo a third time in April 2022, and this time it stuck.

Furthermore, her petition mentioned “irreconcilable differences,” indicating that she and her long-term spouse (almost 30 years) had been living apart since February 2020.

In my personal journey spanning three decades, blessed with five extraordinary children, and countless cherished memories, Tish and I have made the decision to embark on separate journeys. This decision isn’t born out of sadness, but rather overflowing with love in our hearts. Together, we’ve grown, built a family that makes us incredibly proud, and now it’s time for us to carve out our unique paths in life.

They mentioned that their choice to part ways permanently wasn’t made hastily or impulsively. However, they emphasized that they would remain family and eagerly anticipate a future filled with friendship and joint parenting experiences.

As a devoted admirer, I’m delighted to share that I found myself betrothed to the exceptional Australian artist, Firerose, in August of 2022. Given our age difference, with her being 27 years my junior, I chose to keep this news private until I confirmed it publicly in November of the same year.

As a native Australian, Firerose shared with People magazine that her affection for music has always been her most significant passion. She’s been familiar with his music for as long as she can remember.

What started as a friendship turned into more during the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Suddenly, my life as a touring artist ceased to be, as Billy Ray put it. It was a time of immense change. Amidst this upheaval, Firerose – once a beacon of positivity, a cherished friend – entered our lives. As we began creating music together, our bond deepened from musical companions to soulmates. This pure, unadulterated love I hadn’t known was possible, left me utterly captivated.

In November 2022, shortly after her ex-husband announced his engagement, Tish made their relationship public on Instagram with actor Dominic Purcell, known for his role in “Prison Break”.

In the heart-pounding spring of 2023, I was beyond ecstatic to witness the magical moment when they exchanged “I do’s”! It was an August afternoon in dreamy Malibu, as the setting sun painted a picture-perfect backdrop for their union. By my beloved matriarch’s side, there stood Miley, Trace, and Brandi – three pillars of support and love on this extraordinary day.

Life’s unforeseeable nature and constant evolution were encapsulated in a photo he shared featuring himself and two siblings with the bride. He expressed that the essence lies in appreciating the past, embracing what’s to come, and finding joy in each moment, as the present is all we truly possess.

In an interview with Vogue before her mother’s wedding, Miley expressed that seeing her mom so joyful and in love was deeply emotional for her. She further added that Dom and her mother have the most authentic and endearing love. It feels as if it’s their first time together, which perfectly suits her mother, who embodies such a youthful spirit.

Regarding her father’s upcoming phase, it was reported by TopMob News in October 2022 that Miley herself had expressed she wasn’t fond of it and wasn’t maintaining a relationship with the woman who might become her future stepmother.

As a devoted admirer, I can share that the separation of her parents has made my bond with her father rather tense, and it’s been quite challenging to establish a strong connection with him over the past year. However, with a heart full of hope, I eagerly anticipate the day when we might be able to work on rebuilding our relationship.

Billy Ray communicated to People magazine in November that there were no lingering ill-feelings within the family regarding his engagement.

He remarked that everyone is moving forward, acknowledging it’s been quite a journey. Yet, everyone understood it was high time for something new to begin.

On October 10, 2023, he and Firerose exchanged marriage vows, referring to it as a “stunningly beautiful and joyful day when our souls became one in the sacred bond of matrimony.

It seems that as of the Grammy Awards on February 4, 2024, whatever division existed between Miley and her father had not yet been reconciled.

As an overly enthusiastic admirer, I couldn’t help but feel my heart racing when I found myself in the same room as the legendary Tish, Brandi, and none other than Miley’s one and only Maxx Morando! The excitement was palpable when the enchanting “Flowers” singer snatched the Record of the Year award, and it felt like a personal victory as each of them received their well-deserved shout-outs.

As Miley concluded her speech, “I don’t think I forgot anyone.”

Amongst the three allegations about Noah’s relationship with Dominic, neither have been confirmed nor denied. However, it’s important to note that in April 2024, the award-winning artist Noah responded firmly to an Instagram commenter who insensitively implied that both Noah and Tish had intimate moments with the actor.

Approximately eight months following their wedding, Billy Ray initiated proceedings to nullify the marriage, claiming in court papers that it was entered into through deception.

He listed May 22, 2024, as their date of separation.

However, Billy Ray amended his plan and filed for divorce, which was settled that August.

Billy Ray expressed his shock to TopMob News, stating, “This is undoubtedly the wildest, most unbelievable scam I’ve ever encountered. What makes it even more alarming is that I seem to be right in the thick of it and apparently the main focus of the plot. It’s regrettable that things have unfolded this way.

In this Instagram post on Jan 22, 2025, Trace expresses his feelings towards his father: “From my earliest recollections, you’ve always been the most fascinating person to me. I’ve admired you immensely and aspired to emulate you. The day you took me in as your own was truly the happiest moment of my life. Regrettably, the man I yearned to become so much resembles someone I barely recognize today.

As a concerned sister’s devoted follower, I’ve shared your worries alongside my siblings for quite some time now. Yet, despite our efforts, we’ve felt distanced from you over the years.

Noah was especially hurt, according to Trace.

Noah has deeply hoped that you would become an important part of her life, but unfortunately, you haven’t been present for her,” he expressed. “That’s your daughter we are talking about – she deserves more. Somehow, much like me, she still admires you despite everything. We are all clinging to memories of the person you used to be and longing for the day when you might return.

Following concerns expressed by his son Trace, as well as sisters Miley, Brandi, and Noah, the country music star expressed in a caption of a YouTube Shorts post on January 26, 2025, that he is praying for his family. He specifically mentioned his children, both sons and daughters, and their mother.

In March 2025, it appeared that Billy Ray’s relationship with his children, Miley and Noah, was strengthening, as he publicly expressed heartfelt appreciation for their recent musical achievements.

He expressed on Instagram, “They’ve raised the bar with their art to unprecedented heights. Kudos to each of you! I’m filled with immense pride and it shows in my tears. Incredibly grateful that you can’t see me bawling.

In May 2025, Billy Ray posted a picture on Instagram showing him with Miley, Maxx Morando (Miley’s boyfriend), and his son Braison Cyrus, who seemed to be at Billy Ray’s farm in Tennessee. The post was captioned as a birthday wish for Braison: “Happy Birthday Braison!!!

The following day, Miley addressed the speculations surrounding family disputes on Instagram, acknowledging that she and her father have faced difficulties throughout the years.

In her thirties now, Miley emphasized that her family takes precedence over everything else. She finds comfort in the fact that relationships have been mended and time has brought a significant amount of healing. She’s thankful for the wellness and affection that permeates her family circle.
