Rip And Beth’s Yellowstone Spinoff Has Started Filming, But Now I Have A Question About Where It’ll Take Place

I can hardly contain my excitement as the much-anticipated Rip and Beth Yellowstone spinoff seems to be edging closer to our screens, potentially debuting towards the end of 2025’s television schedule. And now, it appears that one significant step has been taken – filming has finally begun! Yet, there’s a twist in the tale, as this Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser-led production is not set to be filmed in Montana like its predecessor. Instead, they’ve shifted base to Texas. This move leaves me with an intriguing question: what unique perspectives and landscapes will we explore in this spinoff?

What We Know About Where Rip And Beth’s Spinoff Is Being Filmed

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the production for the show known tentatively as “Rio Palo” or previously rumored as “The Dutton Ranch,” (although Cole Hauser clarified it’s not the latter) has officially begun! According to Collider, they’ve set up shop in Ferris, Texas – a quaint little town located about 20 miles south of Dallas. I can hardly contain my excitement for this one!

Brooks Williams, the city manager of Ferris, expressed excitement by stating that the arrival of this production in town represents a “proud and entertaining occasion,” highlighting the eagerness surrounding the upcoming Yellowstone show.

It’s worth noting that Yellowstone underwent a significant change; for most parts, the main production was filmed in Montana. The iconic mansion used frequently appeared on Chief Joseph Ranch in Darby, as shared by Elle. However, some scenes from the contemporary Western were also shot in Utah. Yet, during Season 4, Montana emerged as the primary location for the show.

This relocation to Texas significantly alters the landscape, raising an important query concerning the location where the series featuring Rip and Beth will unfold.

So, Will Rip And Beth’s Show Take Place In Montana Or Texas?

After Yellowstone ended, I thought the subsequent show featuring Rip and Beth would be set on their new ranch in Dillon, Montana. But since the production is being filmed in Texas, I’m starting to question whether the series might actually be set in the state of Texas instead.

It might appear unusual, but bear with me on this. In the closing episodes of Yellowstone, Rip and Beth embarked upon a significant plotline set in Texas, where they accompanied the cattle and engaged in negotiations with the vast 6666 Ranch to devise a plan for preserving their own property. As a result, it’s clear that they have cultivated relationships in Texas.

A few days back, it was revealed that Annette Bening has joined the Rip and Beth spinoff, portraying Beulah Jackson – the matriarch of a vast Texas ranch. This hints that the Lone Star State might feature prominently in the series, leading me to speculate that perhaps the characters played by Reilly and Hauser have relocated there.

Building on that notion, currently, only Reilly, Hauser, Bening, and Finn Little (who portrays Rip and Beth’s adopted son, Carter) have been officially confirmed as cast members. Since no other Yellowstone cast members have been verified yet, it wouldn’t be surprising to speculate that a significant change might be on the horizon.

Given what we know so far, I can’t help but ponder if the series starring Rip and Beth will be set in Texas or Montana. Although Montana, being Big Sky Country, seems like a likely choice, considering their previous location, it’s also plausible that they may have relocated to another region entirely.

It’s uncertain whether a significant amount of time has elapsed between Yellowstone and the upcoming series, or how much Rip and Beth’s lives have evolved in that time. Given that filming is taking place in Texas, I find myself wondering if their new screen home will also be located there, despite their characters being well-known for hailing from Montana.
