In essence, when I mention “Spider-Family,” I’m not hinting at Peter Parker starting a family with someone like Mary Jane Watson, despite many fans hoping for this departure from Marvel’s ongoing storyline of their tumultuous relationship. Instead, I propose that Marvel draw inspiration from DC Comics and introduce a superhero family similar to the Bat-Family or Superman-Family. This concept has potential based on the positive response it received in the Spider-Verse films, where multiple Spider-characters team up and form bonds beyond just colleagues.

In the Marvel comics, there are multiple Spider-related characters active in New York City, but they don’t often interact beyond occasional team-ups to confront city-wide or multiversal perils. Instead, these characters mostly work independently as seen across various Spider-titles. Contrastingly, the Batman family from DC Comics frequently support each other across different comic titles. For instance, Batman might appear in a Nightwing storyline, while Batgirl may show up in a Robin story, and so forth. Their interactions go beyond crime-fighting; they’re often depicted socializing, mentoring one another, and enjoying each other’s company outside of work. This kind of dynamic would be ideal for Peter Parker and the other Spider-people, offering countless opportunities for character development, humor, drama, and intricate relationships. Marvel Has Everything it Needs to Make a Spider-Family Happen

The idea of forming a team known as the Spider-Family has been proposed, and it’s not just limited to those with spider powers; even Mary Jane (the current Venom) could join, potentially repairing her friendship with Peter. With so many beloved Spider-characters in one city, it seems surprising that Marvel hasn’t yet brought them together as a team.

The potential for a lasting, close-knit alliance among the Spider-Family is virtually boundless. For instance, they could leverage their distinct powers: Picture Miles’ bioelectricity merging with Julia’s precognition. That would make villains shudder! Additionally, instead of only teaming up during significant crossover events, characters like Kaine could appear and work alongside Gwen in her solo adventures, or Peter might more often collaborate with Jessica within the Amazing Spider-Man series.

On a different note, similar to the Bat-Family, demonstrate the Spider-Family members interacting with each other in diverse settings and circumstances, unrelated to their superhero duties-having casual conversations, engaging in leisure activities together, exchanging humorous remarks. This approach would not only intensify the action but also provide fans with a deeper understanding of the characters on a personal level.

Marvel can use diverse relationships within the Spider-Family to delve into contrasting viewpoints and characters, creating a rich tapestry of drama. Meanwhile, they can showcase instances where these characters lean on each other for advice and emotional support. Marvel could take this a step further by launching a continuous comic series focusing on the Spider-People banding together against evil, forming an unconventional family unit. With multiple generations, differing personalities, and a spectrum of spider-powered talents, such a team could become a powerful tool for storytelling, providing drama, humor, and character development.

A Spider-Family Would Fix the Biggest Problem in Spider-Man Comics

A significant issue with current Spider-Man comics lies in the static development of Peter Parker’s character, as Marvel writers tend to keep Peter trapped in an endless loop of solitude and hardship. The majority of modern “Amazing Spider-Man” storylines follow this pattern: Peter feels unbearably lonely, a villain brutally beats him up, he recovers only to save the day (still feeling miserable), repeat. In these low moments, there is seldom anyone to aid and console him, except for Aunt May. Interestingly, rather than providing support during tough times, Peter’s coworkers and the Fantastic Four often turn against him when things go wrong. It has even reached a point where Peter seeks solace from Norman Osborn, his former archenemy. However, since Marvel tends to revert back to the status quo, it won’t be long before Norman regains the Green Goblin identity and torments Peter again. This pattern suggests that Marvel views Peter as destined to live a life of solitude, disregarding his wall-crawling friends and loved ones who should stand by him during difficult times.

As a film enthusiast with a deep love for the web-slinging hero, I’m thrilled about the prospect of Marvel expanding the Spider-Family. By introducing a diverse group of Spider-characters, Peter Parker will not only gain a solid support system but also be propelled into exciting new storylines. Just like in the Spider-Verse movies, Peter can step up as a mentor to budding heroes such as Miles Morales, Ganke Lee (Bailey), and Mangaverse’s Anya Corazon (Maka).

This dynamic could lead to heartwarming and humorous character interactions as Peter guides the next generation of crime fighters. The Spider-gang can not only learn from each other, but also grow stronger together.

Peter and Miles, for instance, could embark on their own solo adventures, only to reunite for thrilling team-ups when needed. Additionally, having peers like Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman), Cindy Moon (Silk), Kaine Parker, and Julia Carpenter around will offer Peter companions his own age who truly understand the challenges of being a vigilante.

Over time, this growing family of Spider-People could become an extended surrogate family for Peter, providing him with much-needed support in a world that often leaves him beaten and misunderstood. When all is said and done, what our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man truly needs is a found family to help him rise again and again.

Simplifying that statement: A Spider-Family could offer Peter Parker some relief from recurring troubles, and send a potent message emphasizing that family isn’t only about blood relations. This family would be there for each other in times of distress, aiding fellow web-slingers. Whether through increased collaborations, casual gatherings, or even a fresh solo series, introducing a Spider-Family could elevate the Spider-Man comic saga to greater heights.
