The Justice League Has Their Most Unlikely Mission Yet (And You’ll Never Believe Who Needs Their Help)

The new publishing venture from DC, dubbed DC All-In, has been met with great applause and success. It’s introduced the highly acclaimed Absolute DC Universe collection, featuring top-selling DC books for years. Simultaneously, the regular line of DC comics is experiencing a revival, offering exceptional superhero tales. One of the key focuses in this rejuvenation has been the series Justice League Unlimited, with its latest issue being #10. In this installment, the Time Trapper, under assault by Darkseid’s Legion, seeks help at the Justice League’s satellite, revealing a large wound in his chest. Interestingly enough, this Time Trapper is none other than one of the deadliest villains in the DC Multiverse – Doomsday.

In the realm of DC Comics, the Time Trapper is a complex character, known for undergoing various transformations throughout time, much like the very essence he manipulates. The latest incarnation of this enigmatic figure has significantly impacted the storyline of Superman, as he traveled through time to warn Superman about an impending catastrophe. Interestingly, Doomsday took on the mantle of Time Trapper, seemingly with a noble intention – assisting our heroes (though the tale isn’t concluded yet, so there may be a twist in store). Now, this Time Trapper has forged an alliance with the Justice League, necessitating them to save the monster who claimed Superman’s life.

Doomsday Has Met a Force Greater Than Himself

Lately, the Justice League has been facing quite a bit of turmoil. In the story “We Are Yesterday,” they saved time from Gorilla Grodd, who sought to seize the power of the Omega Rift. Currently, their satellite serves as a dwelling for various incarnations of the Justice League throughout history, and they’re grappling with finding a solution to restore time, which “We Are Yesterday” disrupted. Another challenge is the arrival of Doomsday at the Watchtower. In an issue of “Justice League Unlimited,” Doomsday sought assistance from the World-Forger, the brother of the Monitor and Anti-Monitor, who played a role in creating every universe within the DC Multiverse. Originating from a future where Darkseid had taken control of creation, Doomsday desired Superman to kill him so he could become a god and save the multiverse from Darkseid. However, the Darkseid Legion has been pursuing him to prevent interference, with “Justice League Unlimited” #10 opening with an attack on him. Despite their best efforts, the Darkseid Legion manages to overpower Doomsday, who now possesses extraordinary temporal abilities, forcing him to flee to the Watchtower.

In response to the conundrum presented by “We Are Yesterday”, the Justice League swiftly takes action, despite reservations from some members about intervening in Doomsday’s situation. Wally West is the initial member to approach Doomsday’s damaged form, only to find himself rapidly aging as he moves closer. Black Lightning speculates that this rapid aging is a result of an automatic defensive mechanism that affects anyone approaching Doomsday. As the defensive field expands and harms the Watchtower, the team summons Niles Caulder, Martian Manhunter, and Metamorpho to assist. Since Caulder specializes in alien biology and Metamorpho can withstand inorganic substances, they are resilient against the defensive field. Meanwhile, Martian Manhunter serves as a link between their minds, enabling them to heal Doomsday’s internal wounds. However, despite Metamorpho successfully mending Doomsday’s heart, the expanding field continues to wreak havoc on the Watchtower, threatening its imminent collapse. With time running short, Martian Manhunter, Caulder, and Metamorpho race against the clock to save the Watchtower, a crucial resource for the Justice League at this critical juncture.

Doomsday’s Death May Doom the Earth

The DC All-In series has been running smoothly, and the character known as the Time Trapper has significantly impacted the storyline of this publishing project since his reintroduction in Superman #19. It’s likely that the Time Trapper has his own selfish reasons for offering assistance – he desires to attain godhood himself – yet he has proven beneficial, particularly to Superman. The Justice League recently survived a narrative where time travel almost proved disastrous, and the Darkseid Legion has been moving through time and attacking those who oppose Darkseid. Doomsday, acting as the Time Trapper, aims to ensure that the future of the Darkseid Legion doesn’t come to pass, so defeating him will play a crucial role in the heroes’ final victory.

The grim predicament is worsened by Doomsday’s reflexive defensive shield that accelerates decay. Given his awareness of this trait, he intentionally put the Justice League in danger, hoping they would rescue him. In essence, ensuring his own salvation became a crucial aspect of their future-saving mission, even without the Time Trapper.
