Zach Cregger has finally clarified his DC Universe script with Batman and Gotham City.
What did Zach Cregger say about his Batman movie script?
Previously, an article by The Hollywood Reporter highlighted Cregger’s upcoming ventures after the triumph of Weapons. Among these projects was Henchmen, a narrative set within the DC Universe, focusing on lesser-known henchmen based in Gotham City who accidentally kill Batman and subsequently achieve fame. Potentially, characters such as Batman, Joker, and Harley Quinn could make an appearance in Henchmen.
A few years back, during Barbarian’s promotion, Cregger playfully hinted that he could start working on the DC project at a moment’s notice.
Should I receive the call, I’d abandon all my current tasks immediately to produce that film without delay,” said Cregger to Discussing Film. “It’s the piece I adore most among my works. I cherish it deeply and can hardly wait to bring it to life.
On the Double Toasted podcast, Cregger clarified the rumors surrounding the DC project by addressing the topic of Henchmen.
Cregger remarked, ‘What’s amusing is how much this topic has been exaggerated on the internet. To clarify, I did write Henchmen, a tale set within the DC Universe, but before Barbarian. I genuinely adore it. However, it’s not a script about Joker and Harley. I’ve noticed that being discussed online. Also, I haven’t interacted with James Gunn regarding it. Truth be told, I haven’t had any conversations about it with anyone at [DC Studios].’
I, as a passionate fan, am thrilled to share that Cregger isn’t occupied with Henchmen at the moment; instead, he’s busy gearing up for a new project – a Resident Evil movie! In an intense bidding war, Sony emerged victorious for the rights to Cregger’s Resident Evil film. This masterpiece will not only be written but also directed by him. And guess who’s taking the lead? Austin Abrams, the talented actor from Weapons! Can’t wait to see it unfold on the big screen!
Resident Evil will begin shooting this fall. It will be released in theaters on September 18, 2026.
