How Channing Tatum Bombed His Thor Audition for the MCU

Actor Channing Tatum recently disclosed that he had unsuccessfully tried out for the role of Thor, a part that eventually went to Chris Hemsworth. Interestingly, Tatum expressed a desire to audition only for director Kenneth Branagh, who was in charge of the first Thor film featuring an ensemble cast including Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba, and others.

Channing Tatum recently spoke about how he bombed his audition for the 2011 movie, Thor.

The actor shared that excess movement led him to lose the role and said, “After doing one take, [Branagh] told me not to move and to keep my hands on a chair. I froze up. He hit my crutch perfectly. For the next five years, I worked hard to master stillness.” (Based on Variety report)

Alongside Tatum, Tom Hiddleston, known for his portrayal of Loki, Thor’s brother, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, originally tried out for the role of Thor. During a 2019 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Hiddleston shared that he auditioned for the initial Thor movie way back in 2009, believing he was up for an intriguing part in an appealing film.

Hiddleston ultimately got selected to play Loki in Branagh’s Thor movie.

Following his introduction in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the 2024 film “Deadpool & Wolverine”, Channing Tatum’s character, Gambit, has stirred quite a sensation. Now, it’s confirmed that he will reprise this role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie.
