Heaven knows Taylor Momsen is a fashion icon.
Instead of saying “After all,” you could use “In particular” or “Notably.” So, the revised sentence could be: “In particular, the former Gossip Girl actor made a rare appearance and stunned in all-black at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 7, held at UBS Arena in New York.
On this special event, Taylor graced the occasion in an outfit that included a black lacy bralette, a long leather skirt with a side slit, and sturdy leather platform boots. She added some edge to her look with two interwoven studded belts, a stack of silver bracelets, and multiple silver necklaces.
At 32 years old, she completed her VMAs appearance with a smoky black eye shadow, a natural-toned lip color, and her golden hair flowing over her shoulders. (Check out who else showed up here.)
Recently, the singer of The Pretty Reckless has attracted attention for her incredibly toned abdominals. However, she’s long been known for her edgy, dark wardrobe choices that are a consistent part of her style.
In her conversation with CR Fashion Book in 2022, she shared that she’s all about music and fashion, and those are the elements she prefers to be surrounded by. If she happens to notice someone who seems inspired by her style, it’s definitely a humbling experience, but she continues to focus on just dressing herself.
Taylor often highlights the fact that fashion plays a significant role in the visual representation of music by musicians, as she puts it, “Music is greatly influenced by fashion in terms of its visual expression.
After all, she added, “There’s the album art, the live show production, and the fashion.”
For the singer, her life in the spotlight helped her personal aesthetic evolve.
In an interview back in 2010, she shared that she has a fondness for fashion. She prefers dark tones and appreciates makeup as well. The need to maintain a public image, she explained, necessitates learning how to blend these elements harmoniously.
A part of that came from developing her Gossip Girl character Jenny Humphrey’s turbulent storyline.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve noticed that many shows today strive to blend reality with fiction, making the characters more relatable by incorporating aspects of the actors’ personalities. So, in an effort to connect deeper with my character, Jenny, I started dressing and doing makeup in a manner that reflects who I am personally. Consequently, Jenny’s style mirrors mine as well.
