MTV VMAs: Jessica Simpson Addresses Reunion With Ex Eric Johnson

For Jessica Simpson, supporting Ashlee Simpson has been a public affair.

Following his lead, the artist famously known as “With You” singer decided to support her ex-husband Eric Johnson in attending Ashlee’s opening night of the “I Am Me” residency held at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas on August 29th.

Jessica shared with TopMob News during the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards on September 7 that “As a close-knit group, it was essential for everyone’s presence,” she emphasized. “Missing Ashlee? As an older sister, the artist recalled the deeply emotional moments she shared with Ashlee, accompanied by her parents Joe Simpson and Tina Ann Drew. She openly confessed, “I was in tears. I think I cried around seven times.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but confess that, despite my own thriving music career, it often feels like I’m right beside my sister’s tunes on the charts. In a playful moment, Jessica – who shares Maxwell (13), Ace (12), and Birdie (6) with an NFL legend – joked, “I think I know her lyrics by heart, even more than my own old songs.

For Ashlee, her Vegas residency was a special milestone for her and her husband Evan Ross.

The individual, aged 40, shared with TopMob at the VMAs that it was quite exciting because Evan had never before witnessed him perform live. Despite having played shows together, Evan hadn’t had the chance to observe him performing before this event.

She remembered him saying, “Wow, you’re amazing,” which left her feeling deeply moved. It was the most heartwarming gesture she had ever witnessed.

In light of Jessica’s return to music through her latest EP titled “Nashville Canyon“, Ashlee expressed her desire to include some of Jessica’s work in her own collection of songs.

As a dedicated follower, I confidently believe that such a project might very well be underway, without a shadow of a doubt. I shared this sentiment with TopMob on the red carpet, expressing how exciting it would be for us to collaborate again. It’s been thrilling for both of us, revisiting these experiences together, supporting each other, and showing our love. We could almost be like little cheerleaders, rooting each other on!
