In some cases, certain actors who portray superheroes make it challenging to find their replacement. For instance, although Wolverine was “killed off” in Logan and laid to rest in the arms of his “daughter,” Laura, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is making a comeback in Deadpool & Wolverine. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe planning to refresh the X-Men franchise, there are strong indications that Jackman will continue in the role for some time. Similarly, when it’s time for a new actor to suit up as Iron Man, the transition might prove difficult. Bringing Robert Downey Jr. back as Doctor Doom could assist this changeover by making it easier for audiences to accept his character shift from hero to villain.
Not all characters receive a Jackman or Downey Jr.’s caliber of roles. Occasionally, a part is given to an actor who, due to difficult circumstances or subpar performance, gets only one or two opportunities. Mister Fantastic falls into this category as he’s been portrayed by multiple actors on the big screen. Excluding Alex Hyde-White, who appeared in the unpublished ’90s The Fantastic Four film, here is every actor to play Reed Richards in live-action, ranked.
This version maintains the original meaning but aims to make it more engaging and conversational for a natural read.
4) John Krasinski (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness)
Once it was revealed that the MCU was obtaining Marvel’s original family through its deal with Fox, online enthusiasts began suggesting cast members for the roles. Many of these suggestions included Emily Blunt as Sue Storm and John Krasinski as Reed. In response to fan demand, Marvel Studios chose to have Krasinski portray Earth-828’s Mister Fantastic in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness“.
1. During Doctor Strange’s trial, a person associated with the Illuminati (a secret society in Marvel comics), known as Mister Fantastic, participates and helps decide the fate of a variant (an altered version of someone or something).
2. Scarlet Witch, however, prevents Mister Fantastic from returning home for dinner by tearing him apart after a heated discussion between them.
3. John Krasinski delivers his role decently, but his performance lacks the impact needed to move him ahead of others on this list.
3) Miles Teller (Fan4stic)
The making of the 2015 “Fantastic Four” film, also known as “Fan4stic,” was marked by a significant amount of conflict. Director Josh Trank and some members of the writing team had difficulties working together, causing disputes about the film’s development. By the time it was released in theaters, the movie was in disarray, but the cast should not be held responsible for its state.
Miles Teller skillfully takes the helm in a stellar cast, and the movie’s more somber mood provides ample chances for him to showcase his acting skills. Although Miles Teller as Mister Fantastic is often only remembered for his final scene with Ben, where they decide on the team’s name, there are several noteworthy moments that merit inclusion in his highlight reel.
2) Pedro Pascal (The Fantastic Four: First Steps)
As a die-hard fan, I must admit that it was quite surprising when Marvel Studios chose not to reprise John Krasinski’s role for the Fantastic Four. Instead, they decided to take a new path and cast Pedro Pascal, who rose to fame as Joel from HBO’s The Last of Us and the charismatic Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones. Excitedly, Pascal accepted the challenge to embody Mister Fantastic in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and beyond, making him an ideal choice for this iconic role in Marvel’s universe.
In this ensemble film, titled First Steps, Vanessa Kirby’s character, the Invisible Woman, shines brightly and is a strong contender for Most Valuable Player (MVP). Although Pascal’s role brings significant contributions, particularly in devising a plan to tackle the Galactus predicament, some may find that the MCU’s Reed, portrayed by another character, lacks in terms of raw power.
1) Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four & Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer)
After the initial success of several X-Men films, Fox ventured into new territory by producing two Fantastic Four movies, which showcased Marvel’s First Family battling some well-known Marvel antagonists. Although the series didn’t boast many widely recognized actors, the cast, including Ioan Gruffudd portraying Mister Fantastic, embraced the over-the-top elements of the story.
As a film lover, I must admit that Ioan Gruffudd’s portrayal of Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, in the Fantastic Four films is nothing short of brilliant when it comes to his scientific genius. However, when it comes to navigating personal relationships within the team, there seems to be a disconnect – a struggle to truly grasp what his friends need. This misunderstanding paves the way for plenty of emotional turmoil but also provides an opportunity for Reed’s character to evolve and grow. And in the heat of battle, Mr. Fantastic always takes the lead, demonstrating his courage and determination.
