An exciting update for dedicated fans of classic “Final Fantasy” games comes at a time when the franchise thrives in the current era. The revival of “Final Fantasy 7,” the release of “Final Fantasy 16,” and the upcoming remaster of “Final Fantasy Tactics” are just a few examples that highlight “Final Fantasy’s” prosperity in modern times.
A key factor contributing to this success is revisiting and updating elements from older games within the series, as demonstrated by the titles mentioned above. And it appears Square Enix is ready to continue this approach even for more obscure installments in the enduring RPG franchise.
Indeed, with the imminent launch of “Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles“, there’s been curiosity about whether Square Enix might reintroduce other classic Final Fantasy Strategy Role-Playing Games (SRPGs) or even create a new iteration of the popular “Final Fantasy Tactics” series. However, Square Enix isn’t disclosing its plans just yet, but it has made clear that it is amenable to both possibilities.
Buy Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles If You Want More Tactics Games
If questioned by Inverse about potential returns of both Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and its successor, Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift, Square Enix director Kazutoyo Maehiro implied that if Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles performs well, it could pave the way for similar re-releases. Additionally, it could also lead to sequels and new titles within this series.
Maehiro stated, “If The Ivalice Chronicles proves successful, it’s great news for fans who can then enjoy it. At the same time, this success underscores the commercial viability of the strategy RPG genre. This could potentially pave the way for further development of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance or A2, and possibly even sequels or new titles. I believe this is a sentiment shared by everyone involved in the original Final Fantasy Tactics and those currently working on The Ivalice Chronicles – we’d love to see that happen.
Maehiro hinted at the potential for more installments of Final Fantasy Tactics, contingent upon market demand. What’s worth noting is that he and his team are keen on pursuing this project further. In essence, if Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles performs well, chances are high that there will be additional games in the series.
However, it’s important to keep in mind that Square Enix often has ambitious expectations for its games, which frequently don’t meet their projections despite the game’s success.
Regarding our discussion, and as usual, don’t hesitate to share your thoughts. Which would you prefer: a brand new installment of the classic strategy RPG, “Final Fantasy Tactics,” or perhaps a remastered version of either “Final Fantasy Tactics Advance” or “A2”? However, it’s worth noting that several other “Final Fantasy” games could also benefit from a remaster, even those more popular than these two strategy RPGs.
