Indiana Jones: The Circle of Giants – A Pocketful of Adventure finds our hero, Indiana Jones, engaged in another thrilling escapade. This time, the action unfolds within the intricate labyrinth beneath Vatican City. Joining forces with a cleric and his companion parrot, Indy is on a quest to unearth a millennia-old secret concerning colossal warriors.
The three-hour long DLC follows a similar pattern to the impressive main campaign, featuring exploration of old caves, some physical combat encounters, and solving a few puzzles, all reminiscent of classic Indiana Jones adventures.
The main environment is comprised of narrow, confined tunnels, with a single open river region. MachineGames has a knack for portraying settings; after delving into every hidden corner of Vatican City in the original game, it’s entertaining to investigate a fresh location nearby. However, keep in mind that the level of detail and grandeur present in those settings is not replicated here, as it primarily serves as set decoration.
From the DLC, the intricate puzzles stand out as a memorable highlight. Some genuinely challenging brain-teasers can be found within, and the game’s stunning realism lets you scrutinize mysterious carvings on ancient tomb walls. It’s an enjoyable experience overall.
Initially, we took the expansion’s commencement rather casually, finding it only somewhat connected to the primary campaign. Yet, by the conclusion, The Order of Giants skillfully balanced the exploration of ancient enigmas with a touch of captivating mythical adventures.
On our PlayStation 5 Pro, we found the game running exceptionally well overall. The ray-traced reflections added an amazing level of realism and engagement, complemented by its smooth 60 frames-per-second speed.
Remarkably, there were instances where the seams in walls appeared to glow brightly, and during one cutscene, the lights flickered erratically. Regrettably, these minor issues detract from an otherwise impressive performance, as the vast majority of this DLC appears visually and smoothly just like the main game.
The Order of Giants won’t sway anyone’s feelings towards MachineGames Indy’s previous outing. If you weren’t a fan before, you likely won’t be now. For those returning players seeking something fresh and exciting, you might be disappointed, as it falls short in offering the grandeur we admired in the original game.
If you’re yearning for a little longer adventure with your beloved witty archaeologist, The Order of Giants delivers precisely that! It provides an engaging storyline, stunning visuals, and challenging yet rewarding puzzles. Enjoy the ride!
