Charlie Sheen Reveals “Biggest Betrayal” Made by Dad Martin Sheen

Charlie Sheen is looking back at life differently.

In his recently published memoir titled “The Life of Sheen,” the former star of “Two and a Half Men” recounts his struggle with addiction, focusing on the incident when his father, Martin Sheen, handed him over to the authorities for breaching his probation terms back in 1998.

Charlie expressed to Michael Strahan on Good Morning America on September 8 that it felt as if he had experienced the most profound betrayal imaginable. He further explained that although he eventually viewed the situation as one of love, at the moment, it was similar to a scene from his book where his bodyguard announces the imminent arrival of the U.S. Marshals, indicating they must leave immediately.

He acknowledged that it’s challenging to seek assistance when someone else has already taken the initiative on his behalf. This sentiment reflected his belief that he wanted to maintain control over situations and preferred doing things independently, according to his own methods.

Following Charlie’s cocaine overdose in May 1998, Martin chose to report his son to the authorities, resulting in an extension of his probation (from a 1997 assault conviction) for another year and admittance into a rehabilitation program.

At the time, the West Wing alum felt that involving the authorities was the only way to move forward.

Martin stated to AARP The Magazine in 2008 that this was a matter involving criminal activity. He emphasized that this was the key element, the means of influence he used. He brought it up in court, and also presented it to the sheriff. It was through this approach alone that he managed to deal with the situation.

Reflecting on his eight-year journey of overcoming addiction, Charlie, who is now clean, offered insights about what he discovered during that time in the public eye.

He shared with TopMob News on September 4th that he is yet to figure out what point he was trying to make. He admitted that he hasn’t found the answer to the mystery he was pursuing, and he’s unsure about continuing to explore further in search of whatever comes next.

In due time, the man who is 60 years old and has children such as Cassandra (aged 40), Sami (21), Lola (20) with ex-partners Paula Profit, Denise Richards respectively, along with twin sons Bob and Max (both 16) from Brooke Mueller, finally understood the gravity of his decisions.

He went on to say, “By then, I had so much proof that there was barely any other option left except for a funeral, a vigil, or something tragic. Now when I look back, I think, ‘Gosh, things might have been handled differently.’

In 1984, at the tender age of 19, Charlie became a father to Cassandra, who was born to his long-time high school sweetheart, Paula Profit.

Despite generally keeping a low profile, Cassandra was accompanied by the actor from Two and a Half Men at her 2010 wedding to Casey Huffman.

Charlie and former spouse Denise Richards gave birth to their eldest child on March 9, 2004, two years following their wedding in 2002.

Sami initially gained prominence when she featured in Denise Richards’ 2008 reality show, “Denise Richards: It’s Complicated”, as a young girl.

Looking back on over a decade, I found myself stepping into the spotlight in 2022, at the age of 18, as an OnlyFans model. Since then, my career choice has proven to be a financially rewarding one.

Sami shared with People magazine in February 2025 that this opportunity has opened up numerous avenues for him. He’s met some fantastic people along the way, he enjoys the freedom of being his own boss, setting his own schedule, and most importantly, achieving what he’s always dreamed of.

At the time when “It’s Complicated” debuted, Lola, now grown, developed quite distinctly from her elder sister who was known for crossing boundaries.

Born June 1, 2005, she is a woman of God and a devout Christian.

In a 2025 interview with People, the restaurant hostess shared her extraordinary experience. She described it as something beyond the natural world, explaining that she felt Jesus saved and transformed her life. Not only did he become her Savior, but also her closest companion.

The teen also shared how religion saved her from the darkness of depression.

She confessed on Instagram that she felt utterly lost and without hope, struggling just to get through each day. But someone came along and provided a beacon of light when she couldn’t find her own, guiding her out of the shadows. For her, Jesus was the one who saved her from the clutches of severe anxiety and bestowed upon her an inexplicable peace.

After her split from Charlie, Denise – now single – legally adopted her youngest child, Eloise, as an infant in the year 2011. In 2016, she received a diagnosis revealing a deletion on chromosome 8, which subsequently led to difficulties in Eloise’s development regarding walking and speaking abilities.

Mom proudly shared with People in March 2025 that Eloise radiates positivity. She’s always eager and joyful, and this infectious happiness isn’t lost on her older siblings. Occasionally, they might squabble, but Eloise’s gentle intervention, like a calming presence, helps them to step back from their petty disagreements.

Charlie and his third spouse, Brooke Mueller, became parents to twin boys named Bob Sheen and Max Sheen on the 14th of March, 2009. The duo parted ways less than two years after that, with Bob and Max residing primarily with their mother Denise amidst their parents’ challenging separation.

In 2023, Charlie got candid about raising his youngest children as a single dad.

He informed People that due to his mother being occupied with resolving certain matters, she hasn’t been visible much lately. However, he emphasized how amazing, intelligent, and amusing the individuals in question are.

At their mother’s 47th birthday party in August 2024, the twins, who usually prefer to keep a low profile, attended this special event rather infrequently.

It’s worth mentioning that Charlie, who we know as Carlos Estévez, was born into a well-known lineage. His father is Martin Sheen, the renowned actor whose illustrious Hollywood career has lasted over half a century.

Charlie has an older brother named Emilio Estévez who likewise chose to walk the path set by their father, featuring in iconic movies such as The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire, Mission: Impossible, and The Mighty Ducks.

The stars also share brother Ramon Estévez andsister Renée Estévez.
