Big Little Lies Season 3 Is Officially in the Works

The Monterey Five are no longer keeping this a secret.

Six years after the premiere of the second season of Big Little Lies, it has been confirmed that the HBO series will come back for a third episode, as per numerous sources.

Although specific details regarding the plot for the upcoming season are yet to be disclosed, it has been confirmed that fresh acting talent will be showcased. The esteemed showrunner Francesca Sloane, known for her collaboration on 2024’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, is poised to pen the first episode as part of a two-year contract with HBO. This information was reported by Deadline.

She will also serve as executive producer for the third season, alongside Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and the series’ creator David E. Kelley, who adapted Big Little Lies from Liane Moriarty’s book with the same title.

Regarding characters we recognize, Reese and Nicole are set to play Madeline Mackenzie and Celeste Wright again, as reported by Variety. For now, it’s undecided whether original actors Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley will join them to add more intrigue in the California community.

TopMob News has reached out to HBO for additional comment.

Approximately two years ago, Nicole, who is now 58, disclosed that the third season of “Big Little Lies” was already being planned. Although this news was thrilling for fans initially, Nicole later acknowledged that she might have announced it prematurely.

She shared with Vanity Fair during their joint interview with Reese back in June that she had initially been enthusiastic, but now they were definitely on board! Things are progressing swiftly, and Liane is making great strides in completing the book. To add, everything seems to be going well for them.

After five months, Reese provided a quick summary of the show’s advancements, mentioning that she and her team had been collaborating closely with Liane on specific aspects of the storyline.

The 49-year-old mentioned to TopMob News in October that she would be submitting something shortly. She also shared that they’re returning to the original author and characters, which adds an exciting twist. Since the kids might have grown older, this could introduce another layer to the story. However, she hasn’t read it yet.

Meanwhile, while you’re eagerly anticipating the return of Big Little Lies, here are some other intriguing TV series premiering this autumn. Enjoy!
