The story of *One Piece* centers on pirates searching for the ultimate treasure. While it’s about a crew working together towards a common goal, the series also explores themes of freedom and breaking free from rules. However, *One Piece* consistently connects these adventurous pirates to relatable human experiences, especially the importance of family. The series particularly highlights the role of fathers and how they influence their children’s lives.
As a huge *One Piece* fan, I’ve always noticed how brilliantly the series handles father figures – even though it’s not the main theme! It’s amazing how they *keep* introducing new dads, even now, and some of them are totally unexpected! Over the years, *One Piece* has really become a masterclass in portraying these characters. So, I’ve put together my list of the 10 best dads in the series!
10) Rocks D. Xebec

Rocks D. Xebec, widely known as the most dangerous pirate of the past, is being fully explored through a flashback in *One Piece*. Initially presented as a villain, he’s turning out to be more complex than fans thought. While boisterous and wild, he seems to have strong reasons for his actions, which directly challenge the beliefs of the World Government. Recent story developments are even rewriting the events of God Valley, suggesting Rocks isn’t a villain at all, but a loving husband and father.
With everyone rushing to God Valley to save Shakky, Rocks is going to protect his wife and son, Marshall D. Teach. Knowing this journey will likely be his last, it seems he’s sacrificing himself for his family. This selfless act deserves praise, and future reveals might show Rocks to be an even more admirable father and individual than fans currently believe.
9) Senior Pink

In *One Piece*, not all fathers get to enjoy family life. Senor Pink, a character from the Dressrosa Arc, stands out for his complex role as a husband and father. His story is deeply sad: he pretended to be someone he wasn’t to protect his wife, but tragedy struck when their baby died, leaving his wife in a coma.
It really gets me when I think about Señor Pink. He loved his wife so much that, to cheer her up, he started dressing as a baby – and he *kept* doing it, even after she was gone. It just shows how far he’d go to make her happy, a truly devoted husband. But it’s also heartbreaking, because it’s clear he never really recovered from losing his child. The outfit wasn’t just for laughs; it was how he dealt with the pain. Honestly, it makes you wonder what a fantastic father he could have been if things had been different. I think he had the potential to be one of the best dads in *One Piece*.
8) Scopper Gaban

We saw more of Scopper Gaban, the Pirate King’s right-hand man, at the beginning of the Elbaf arc. It quickly became clear that he’s a wonderful father figure. The arc also hints at a major upcoming conflict, and shows Gaban is still a powerful fighter, despite his biggest vulnerability being his child, Colon.
Colon was one of the children taken by the God Knights. During the rescue attempt, Gaban had the chance to win the fight, but he deliberately took the hit himself to shield his son. This selfless act is exactly what you’d expect from a good father, and considering how often *One Piece* shows us flawed parental figures, Gaban deserves praise for being such a strong dad.
7) Shimotsuki Yasuie

Shimotsuki Yasuie, a surprisingly great character from the Wano arc of *One Piece*, is also a fantastic father figure. He took in Toko after her birth parents abandoned her, providing her with a safe home and bravely opposing the cruel rule of Kaido and Orochi. What makes him such a good father isn’t just that he adopted Toko, but the ultimate sacrifice he made to protect her.
Toko ate a special fruit, the SMILE, because he was hungry, which unfortunately caused him to lose the ability to feel and show genuine emotions. Seeing his daughter’s distress, Yasuie made the selfless decision to eat the same fruit so she wouldn’t have to face her struggles alone. This act became a profoundly moving portrayal of a father’s love, and remains one of the most impactful moments in the series.
6) Kyros

Kyros is a uniquely devoted father compared to the others here. While most characters could openly be fathers to their children, Kyros spent a full decade fulfilling his paternal role in secret, as he had been transformed into a toy and wasn’t recognized by his child.
For ten years, Kyros dedicated himself to raising and shielding his daughter, Rebecca, in a way that stands out among all the fathers in the world of *One Piece*. It’s incredibly heartwarming to finally see him returned to his human form and able to enjoy a peaceful life with her, just as he always dreamed.
5) Nefertari Cobra

Nefertari Cobra is presented throughout the series as a loving father first and a king second. Unlike some other royal figures, like Sabo, who seemed primarily self-interested, Cobra’s main concern is clearly his daughter Vivi and her well-being, even as he carries out his royal duties.
Cobra is different from King Neptune because he encourages Vivi to be independent, while Neptune tended to be overprotective. Cobra acts like a supportive and encouraging father, and this has helped Vivi become the confident and strong person she is today.
4) Whitebeard

Edward Newgate, better known as Whitebeard, stands out as one of the most unusual and compassionate pirates in the world of *One Piece*. Unlike many pirates, his driving force wasn’t treasure or power, but the desire to build a family and provide the loving upbringing he himself never experienced. Having grown up an orphan, Whitebeard took in numerous people, like Marco and Portgas D. Ace, and even started a war with the Navy to protect Ace.
Whitebeard was seen as a father figure by many famous pirates, who were fiercely loyal to him. This was especially clear during the Battle of Marineford, when a fearful Squard betrayed him. Instead of anger, Whitebeard comforted Squard like a son and forgave him. This act, and his overall paternal influence, solidifies Whitebeard’s place as one of the greatest father figures in the story.
3) Zeff

Zeff, a character from *One Piece*, is a standout father figure for many fans, largely due to his impact on Sanji’s life. Initially, he appears as a strict and demanding chef who pushes his crew for perfection. But his backstory reveals a selfless side: stranded on an island, Zeff sacrificed his own leg to ensure Sanji had enough to eat, essentially becoming the father Sanji always needed.
Zeff rekindles Sanji’s drive, which had faded because Sanji felt he owed Zeff his life. Acting as a strong father figure with a firm but caring approach, Zeff’s ultimate sacrifice is one of the most impactful moments in the story and rightfully earns its place among the series’ most memorable acts.
2) Dr. Hiriluk

Dr. Hiriluk from *One Piece* beautifully demonstrates that being a great father isn’t about blood relation-it’s about genuine care. He became a father figure to Tony Tony Chopper and played a huge role in shaping the kind, lovable character fans adore. While others only saw Chopper as a monster, Hiriluk accepted him unconditionally, taught him medicine, and inspired him to become a doctor who saves lives.
But his most memorable moment came after he unknowingly ate a poisonous mushroom given to him by Chopper. Hiriluk turned this terrible situation into a deeply moving scene, filled with lasting lessons. Even though he wasn’t in the story for long, his impact as a father figure is still strongly felt, and soon fans will be able to relive this powerful moment in the new season of *One Piece*.
1) Bartholomew Kuma

Bartholomew Kuma is widely considered the best father in *One Piece*, and perhaps even in all of anime. His deep love for his daughter is incredibly moving, as evidenced by the enthusiastic fan recreations of his dance with Jewelry Bonney. Kuma truly earns the title of ‘best dad’ through his unwavering dedication and willingness to do anything to keep his child safe – a sentiment that resonates with parents everywhere.
Honestly, what really gets me about Kuma is how amazing a father he is *despite* not even being Bonney’s biological dad! It just reinforces the idea that being a father isn’t about blood relation, it’s about what you *do*. Knowing his own life was filled with nothing but struggle, he still chose to give this little girl a chance at something better. Seriously, no other dad in *One Piece* has ever stepped up to the plate like Kuma did, and that’s why I think he’s the absolute best father figure in the whole series.
