Ironheart Villain Wants the Hood & Doom Epic Rivalry in MCU (and so Do We)

As Anthony Ramos, I step into the role of Parker Robbins, better known as The Hood in the Marvel series ‘Ironheart‘. Like others, I find striking similarities between my character and Doctor Doom. While The Hood possesses magical abilities reminiscent of Doctor Strange’s mystic arts, he remains grounded, with ambitions that reflect the real world. In this sense, he provides a compelling lead-up to Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Victor von Doom, the renowned character, navigates the blurred lines between scientist and sorcerer. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, I expressed my eagerness to reprise the role of Robbins and potentially foster a rivalry with Doom.

Ramos expressed enthusiasm about exploring more of the character’s depth given that Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Doctor Doom. Since the characters share connections in the comics, he wonders if there might be an opportunity for crossover. He added that anything is possible in the Marvel Universe and he’d welcome another chance to delve deeper into Parker’s character.

It’s uncertain how closely the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s portrayals of The Hood and Doctor Doom align with their comic book roots, but we do have some indications about the differences and similarities between this version of The Hood. As per Marvel Studios, this incarnation of Robbins hails from Chicago instead of New York, and his criminal history is tied to his mother’s involvement with the street gang-turned activist group, the Young Lords, rather than petty theft. However, he still obtains his supernatural powers from a mystical cloak, similar to the comics.

In this story, Ramos and executive producer Ryan Coogler have pointed out that Robbins, played by Dominique Thorne, has a contrasting character to Robbins, as they both carry burdens and harbor resentment. At first, they will work together in this miniseries, but it seems they’ll eventually turn into adversaries. However, The Hood is not typically portrayed as a full-blown villain in the comics; instead, he often takes on an anti-hero role, occasionally aligning with superheroes.

So far, Victor von Doom hasn’t been portrayed as a practitioner of mystic arts in any big-screen adaptations. In the comics, however, Doom is the son of a Romani witch and made a pact with Mephisto, which gives him formidable magical powers. At the same time, he also delved into science, leading to his bond with Reed Richards. The extent to which this backstory will be reflected in the MCU isn’t clear, considering Robert Downey Jr.’s casting as Doom. Many fans speculate that the MCU’s version of Doom might share some traits with Tony Stark.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, it’s not hard to envision Ramos’ charisma propelling him towards more screen presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the future. And guess what?
