For a while, it felt like Nick Cannon was constantly in the news for having another child. The host of *The Masked Singer* is now a father to 12 children with six different women. While everyone involved has always maintained that their family setup works for them, Cannon recently revealed he’s been dealing with some difficult emotions – what he described as “trauma” – as a result of having so many children.
Nick Cannon was a guest on The Breakfast Club radio show, where he said he’s learned that his actions a few years ago that led to so many babies — three in 2021; five in 2022 — were a response to unresolved trauma. The actor explained:
I wasn’t intentionally causing trouble, but I was being reckless and impulsive. I had the resources to do whatever I wanted, and I took advantage of that. Of course, unexpected things happen in life, but it wasn’t about making grand plans like having a huge family. It was more about enjoying the moment and letting things unfold, confident I could deal with whatever came my way.
Look, as someone who follows celebrity news, it’s pretty clear Nick Cannon knew the risks. He’s openly said he understood not using protection could lead to pregnancies. Now, he’s admitting that his whole ‘whatever happens, happens’ attitude was, frankly, irresponsible. He’s calling it ‘frivolous’ now, and honestly, that feels like a pretty accurate way to describe it.
Nick Cannon states he’s financially comfortable and, although he doesn’t use the official child support system, he supports the mothers of his children, probably spending more than legally required. He claims he spends approximately $200,000 annually just on trips to Disneyland.
Even though I’m financially secure now, I often think about how things could have been different if I’d faced my past traumas earlier. As the lead in *Drumline*, I was thrust into the spotlight, but honestly, dealing with everything internally was a real struggle. It makes me wonder…
Now that I’m approaching 45, I realize that if I’d spent more time understanding myself and working through my issues, things could have turned out differently in some situations.
Does that mean he wouldn’t have so many children? Not necessarily, he said, continuing:
I’m not sure, that’s really all there is to it. I’ve always believed my children were born from loving relationships. If I had focused on my own healing and emotional work after the divorce, I likely would have approached other situations with more patience and care.
It’s positive that Nick Cannon is addressing his past trauma, but he still has a very large family. While he acknowledges his life isn’t typical and presents daily difficulties, he doesn’t express regret and says he welcomes all of it.
Nick Cannon has a large family! He and Mariah Carey have twins, Monroe and Moroccan, born in 2011. He also shares Golden Sagon (2017), Powerful Queen (2020), and Rise Messiah (2022) with Brittany Bell. With Abby De La Rosa, he has twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir (2021) and daughter Beautiful Zeppelin (2022). He had a son, Zen (2021), with Alyssa Scott, who sadly passed away as a baby, and they later welcomed daughter Halo Marie (2022). Additionally, he has Legendary Love (2022) with Bre Tiesi and Onyx Ice (2022) with LaNisha Cole.
