Kate Middleton and King Charles III shared a royally sweet moment during a somber time.

At the funeral of Katharine, Duchess of Kent – the wife of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, who was a cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II – on September 16th, Princess Catherine was photographed comforting her father-in-law. She put her arm around his shoulder while kissing him on both cheeks and offering a curtsy.

Kate was with her husband, Prince William, at the funeral, but Prince William’s father, age 76, attended alone. Queen Camilla couldn’t be there because she’s recovering from a sinus infection, according to Buckingham Palace.

Both Prince Charles and Princess Kate, both 43, have had to reduce their public appearances recently due to cancer diagnoses they received in 2024.

Following the princess’s announcement in March that her cancer is in remission, a spokesperson for the King told NBC News that Charles has been in constant contact with his daughter-in-law and that he and Camilla will continue to support the entire family during this challenging period.

Following the funeral of Katharine, Duchess of Kent – the wife of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II – Princess of Wales was seen comforting her father-in-law. Photos show her with her arm around his shoulder as she kissed him on both cheeks and curtsied.

The 76-year-old king briefly looked down after the kind act, then looked back at Kate with his arm resting lightly at her side.

Prince William appeared sad and serious as he stood with the Princess and his father throughout the funeral.

Queen Camilla, Charles’ wife, couldn’t attend due to illness. Buckingham Palace announced she’s recovering from a sinus infection.

Both Prince Charles and Princess Kate, both 43, received cancer diagnoses in 2024 and have been facing health challenges.

Following the princess’s announcement in March – after she went into remission – a spokesperson for the King told NBC News that Charles had been in constant contact with his daughter-in-law and that he and Camilla would continue to support the entire family during this challenging period.

Like Kate, Charles hasn’t revealed the specific type of cancer he’s battling, and he last provided a health update earlier this month.

 

During a visit to the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital, Prince Charles reassured a fellow cancer patient, saying he was “not too bad” when asked how his recovery was going, according to Hello! magazine.

According to a statement released on September 3rd, patient Matthew Shinda, 73, quoted the King as saying that early detection is a major challenge. However, he also expressed optimism, noting that medical professionals are continually improving their ability to treat these conditions.

Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this! I heard Charles actually gave another fan a little update on how he’s doing! It happened back in July when he was at the Jockey Club Rooms in Newmarket. I’m so jealous of that fan, getting a personal update from HIM! It’s just… everything!

Lee Harman, 54, shared with PA Media, according to Hello! magazine, that he asked the person how they were doing, and they replied they were feeling much better and chalked it up to just an unavoidable incident.

That month, Kate resumed her public work and openly shared her experiences with cancer and her journey to get better.

She explained that people often try to appear strong and resilient during medical treatment. But after treatment ends, there’s a challenging period of adjustment. It’s not as simple as just ‘getting back to normal,’ as many expect; that recovery phase can be very difficult, she said during a visit to Colchester Hospital in Essex, according to *People* magazine.

After a 19-month absence, Prince Harry was spotted arriving at Clarence House-the King’s home in London-likely for a meeting with his father before attending another event in the city.

Harry arrived at the house around 5:20 p.m. on September 10th, but Charles had come back just a few hours earlier.

Princess Anne’s son and his girlfriend, Harriet Sperling, announced their engagement on August 1st. They had been dating for over a year. His father is Mark Phillips.

The couple’s spokesperson told Hello! magazine that both families were told about the engagement at the same time and were very happy about it.

Camilla is the first woman to receive this honorary title. It’s a unique position appointed by the King-currently Charles III-based on a recommendation from the First Sea Lord, Sir Gwyn Jenkins.

As a dedicated follower of the Princess of Wales, I was so disappointed to learn she had to cancel her appearance at Royal Ascot just hours before she was scheduled to attend. Kensington Palace confirmed the news to NBC News, and it’s a real shame she won’t be joining the festivities this year.

The palace says Kate was sad to miss the event, but is still working out how to best manage her public appearances as she recovers from cancer.

Prince Harry’s lawsuit seeking extra security ended on May 2nd when a court dismissed his case. This came over a year after a previous request for increased protection was denied by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee.

After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals in 2021 and moved to the US, their security coverage was reduced. However, Harry later requested continued security protection during his trips back to the United Kingdom.

Prince Harry told the BBC on May 2nd that he was deeply upset by the outcome of his recent legal fight. He added that, currently, he doesn’t foresee a situation where he would bring his wife and children back to the United Kingdom.

In an interview with the BBC on May 2nd, Prince Harry said his father, King Charles III, isn’t currently speaking to him due to disagreements about security. He expressed hope that they could repair their relationship, saying, “It would be nice to reconcile.”

Prince Harry expressed his desire to mend things with his family, including his father, but indicated it’s up to his dad to make the first move. He shares two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, with Meghan.

He doesn’t foresee returning to the U.K. with his family anytime soon. He expressed sadness about not being able to share his heritage with his children.

Harry explained that his father has significant influence and could potentially solve the situation. He doesn’t necessarily need to get directly involved, but simply allow the professionals to handle things and continue their work.

Oh my gosh, it’s been over a year since King Charles told us about his cancer, and he just *shared* the most beautiful thing! He wrote on April 29th that going through everything with his health and treatment really showed him how amazing people can be – like it really highlighted the very best in everyone. It just makes me so emotional to hear him say that, honestly!

In a booklet offering support to cancer patients and their families, Charles wrote that facing a diagnosis is understandably scary. However, drawing from his own experience, he also shared that it can reveal incredible kindness and strength in people.

He expressed his gratitude to the healthcare workers who cared for him, and shared that the experience deepened his respect for the incredible work done by the organizations and people present, many of whom he’s known and supported for years.

Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – were absent from the royal family’s traditional Easter service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor on April 20th.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla joined the rest of the royal family in celebrations, but Prince William and Kate chose to spend the weekend at their country home in Norfolk with their children, according to several news sources.

Prince Frederik, the son of Prince Robert and Princess Julie, passed away on March 1st at the age of 22 after a struggle with a rare genetic condition called PolG mitochondrial disease.

Robert shared in a statement that his son, Frederik, is a superhero – not just to their family and friends, but to countless people worldwide, especially through Frederik’s PolG Foundation. Robert believes Frederik’s strength lies in his ability to inspire others and lead by being a positive role model.

 

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, reached a legal settlement with News Group Newspapers – the company that publishes *The Sun* and formerly published *News of the World* – on January 22nd. He had sued them in 2019, claiming their journalists and investigators illegally gathered information about the royal family.

According to NBC News, the settlement involved a significant financial payment and a complete, sincere apology to Prince Harry. The company also publicly admitted to the widespread and deeply intrusive media coverage of both his life and the life of his mother, Princess Diana.

On January 14th, The Princess of Wales shared the wonderful news that her cancer treatment has been successful and she is now in remission.

She shared on X (formerly Twitter) on January 14th that she’s grateful to be in remission and is continuing to focus on getting better. She added that, like anyone facing a cancer diagnosis, it’s taking time to adjust to life afterward.

I’m really excited about the year ahead, honestly. There’s so much potential and I just have a good feeling about it all.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, is grieving the loss of her rescue beagle, whom she adopted in 2015, before she met Prince Harry.

On January 7th, she shared a heartfelt message on Instagram about her sadness. She wrote about crying so much that it felt endless, describing how she’d often stand in the shower hoping the water could wash away the pain, even though she knew it wouldn’t. She acknowledged that it was okay to feel those emotions.

Meghan lovingly remembered her dog, Guy, saying, ‘Thank you for all the love you gave me, always. You brought so much joy to my life.’

 

It’s with a heavy heart that I share the news of a tragic loss. Ed Pettifer, the stepson of Tiggy Legge-Bourke – who many of you will remember as a nanny to Prince William and Prince Harry – was sadly a victim of the recent terrorist attack in New Orleans. It’s a truly heartbreaking situation, and my thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

Prince William and Catherine were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Ed Pettifer. In a statement shared on Kate Middleton’s Instagram on January 4th, Prince William said their thoughts are with the Pettifer family and everyone affected by this terrible tragedy.

Meghan Markle, known for her role in the TV show *Suits*, launched a new Instagram account on January 1st. She had previously closed her personal social media accounts just before marrying Prince Harry in 2018.

The next day, she revealed a new Netflix series called *With Love, Meghan*. A press release described it as a fresh take on lifestyle shows, combining helpful tips and honest chats with both familiar and new friends.

In June 2025, Prince William and Kate Middleton made a rare public appearance with their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, to attend Wimbledon.
