While fans eagerly await news about the next season of Doctor Who, BBC Three is offering a temporary fix by re-airing beloved episodes from 2010.
New episodes will begin airing on Saturdays at 7:10pm, starting September 27th. The first episode will be “The Eleventh Hour,” featuring Matt Smith’s first appearance as the Eleventh Doctor, and will be immediately followed at 8:15pm by “The Beast Below,” the second episode of season 5.
The BBC hasn’t announced how many episodes will air, or if they’ll show all of Ncuti Gatwa’s first season as the Doctor, or potentially even more.
Viewers are eagerly anticipating the arrival of ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea,’ a fresh new series within the Doctor Who universe, scheduled to premiere next year.
We should hear about the BBC and Disney’s partnership for the show once it’s finished airing. However, the BBC has confirmed that Doctor Who will continue even if Disney isn’t involved.
At last month’s Edinburgh TV Festival, BBC Chief Content Officer Kate Phillips reassured fans that “Doctor Who” isn’t going off the air anytime soon.
Our collaboration with Disney has been fantastic, and will continue with ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea’ next year. However, regardless of our relationship with Disney, Doctor Who will remain a BBC program.
The latest Doctor Who episode, “The Reality War,” featured a surprising twist: Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor seemingly transformed into Billie Piper. However, it’s still unclear if Piper is truly taking on the role of the Doctor herself.
Gatwa recently shared that he struggled with the decision to leave the show, explaining he’d grown very fond of it and would miss it. However, he ultimately felt prepared to pursue new opportunities.
