Why Doom Attacks the Avengers: 6 MCU Events That Might’ve Made Him Doomsday’s Hero (Is It All Cap’s Fault?)

Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and many believe he’ll play a key role in fixing the problems created by the current Multiverse Saga. He was confirmed to be back at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, five years after his character, Iron Man, made the ultimate sacrifice in *Avengers: Endgame*. While he’ll initially be playing Doctor Doom, one of Marvel’s most iconic villains, rumors suggest Downey Jr. could become the central hero in the upcoming 2026 film, *Avengers: Doomsday*.

Rumors suggest Doctor Doom, briefly seen at the end of *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*, will be journeying across different universes to prevent catastrophic events that could destroy everything. Several recent Marvel movies and shows have hinted at these events, giving Doctor Doom a possible motive for confronting the Avengers in upcoming films like *Doomsday* and *Avengers: Secret Wars*. While some heroes have recently posed a threat to the multiverse, Doctor Doom might actually be the one to save it.

6) Monica Rambeau Is Trapped in an Alternate X-Men Universe

At the end of the movie *The Marvels*, Monica Rambeau intentionally gets stuck in another dimension to repair a tear in reality caused by the villain, Dar-Benn. Once there, she’s discovered by Beast and Binary, members of the X-Men, with Beast already set to appear in the upcoming *Doomsday* film. Being in the wrong universe creates a dangerous situation for Monica, potentially causing a catastrophic event and drawing the attention of Doctor Doom. While eliminating her could save that universe, it might also have serious consequences for the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.

5) Wolverine Is in the Wrong Universe After Deadpool & Wolverine

Monica Rambeau isn’t the only Marvel character currently in the wrong universe. The reality where the *X-Men* movies took place (Earth 10005) lost its Wolverine in *Logan* (2017), but gained a new one in *Deadpool & Wolverine* (2024). Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine decided not to return to a world where he wasn’t well-liked. This creates a strange situation where, while Jackman could return to the role, a Wolverine shouldn’t even exist in that universe. The events of *Deadpool & Wolverine* may mean there are now *two* Wolverines on Earth 10005, which could create a major problem for Doctor Doom.

4) The Scarlet Witch Wreaked Havoc in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Few films in the Multiverse Saga have explored the idea of multiple universes as thoroughly as 2022’s *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*. The movie showed Wanda Maximoff, as the Scarlet Witch, causing chaos throughout the multiverse by using a powerful book to enter the bodies of her alternate selves. During this, she killed members of a powerful group called the Illuminati from another Earth, potentially creating significant problems for the wider multiverse that could be addressed in future *Avengers* films. There’s speculation that the Scarlet Witch will return, possibly alongside Doctor Doom, who might try to stop her destructive actions.

3) Captain America Returned to the Past to Retire With Peggy Carter

Okay, so everyone’s been buzzing about whether Chris Evans will reprise his role as Captain America in *Avengers: Doomsday*, and honestly, I really hope he does! The fact that the Russo brothers are directing again makes it seem more likely. I’m especially curious if they’ll finally explain what *really* happened with Steve’s trip to return the Infinity Stones. Plus, that ending with Peggy Carter… it felt like it could open up some serious possibilities, maybe even a timeline issue that Doctor Doom could be involved in. Can you imagine Doctor Doom going after Captain America? That would be an epic showdown, and honestly, as a fan, it’s something I’d be totally thrilled to see!

2) Doctor Strange’s Spider-Man: No Way Home Spell Caused Multiversal Problems

Even before his multiversal adventures in *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) damaged the fabric of reality in 2021’s *Spider-Man: No Way Home*. His attempt to erase everyone’s memory of Peter Parker (Tom Holland) backfired, pulling characters from different universes into Earth 616. Although they eventually returned home, Strange may have inadvertently made the entire multiverse forget all versions of Peter Parker. This could have caused widespread instability and problems across realities – a situation Doctor Doom might see as an opportunity.

1) Sylvie Killing He Who Remains Unleashed Infinite Timelines

Following Jonathan Majors’ legal issues and departure from Marvel Studios, it’s highly improbable that any version of Kang the Conqueror will appear in the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday* or *Avengers: Secret Wars* films. However, the events of the *Loki* series on Disney+ will still be crucial to Phase 6’s crossover storylines, particularly with Tom Hiddleston reprising his role. Sylvie’s actions in the *Loki* season 1 finale – killing He Who Remains – opened up the multiverse, creating countless timelines and the potential for dangerous incursions. *Doomsday* will need to deal with these consequences, as this event started the entire Multiverse Saga and provides a strong motivation for Doctor Doom to target key MCU heroes.
