Yuto Suzuki’s manga, *Sakamoto Days*, has been incredibly popular since it first appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump, even before the anime came out. The story is a funny and action-packed tale about Taro Sakamoto, a legendary former assassin who happily gave up his dangerous life for his family. Five years into his retirement, Taro’s peaceful life is threatened when his past catches up to him. Recently, the news that the manga is heading towards its final arc shocked fans, who are now preparing to say goodbye to the series after nearly five years.
Although the story is building towards its end, there’s no official word yet on when the final chapter will be released. Currently, the series is in the midst of a chaotic arc where Kei Uzuki’s plan has caused society to fall apart, and Taro and his friends are racing against time to stop him. While the manga is preparing for its finale with each intense chapter, the franchise isn’t ending anytime soon. The anime still has a lot of story to cover in future seasons, and a live-action movie is also in the works, though details are still limited.
Sakamoto Days’ Live-Action Star Sparks Concern Over Health Issues
According to JPrime, popular Japanese actor and singer Meguro Ren-a member of the group Snow Man-will star as Taro Sakamoto in a live-action adaptation. Ren took a break from his career last year due to health problems, but is now taking on new projects despite ongoing health concerns. In addition to the *Sakamoto Days* live-action series, he’s also been cast in *The Royal Family*, a Japanese drama, though details about that role are still forthcoming.
Does Sakamoto Days’ Live-Action Have a Release Date Yet?
The live-action film doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet, but it will have a special preview screening during Japan’s Golden Week in 2026, from April 29th to May 6th. Yuichi Fukuda is directing the movie, which will be released in two parts. According to a post on X by @WSJ_manga, more information will be revealed on September 23rd. Filming is finished, though it’s currently unknown if that includes both parts of the film or just the first. After the official announcement, expect to see more promotion and details about the release.
You can watch the anime series *Sakamoto Days* now on Netflix. If you’d like to read the manga, it’s available on the Manga Plus app, or you can purchase volumes digitally or in print from Viz Media’s website.
