Anthony Horowitz thinks it was a bad decision to kill James Bond, and he’s not interested in writing a Bond movie himself.
The author, a writer of three James Bond novels, recently spoke with TopMob magazine about his new TV mystery series, Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue. He mentioned that, surprisingly, he’s never received a request to write a script for a Bond film.
He said dealing with major film producers requires a lot of resilience. He added that he’s likely better off not being involved in that world.
He was also glad that Bond’s death in the previous film, *No Time to Die*, wasn’t something he had to address in this one – he called it a major relief.
I was really shocked when I saw Bond seemingly killed off at the end of the last film – poisoned and then… blown up! It felt so final. Honestly, I think it was a misstep. Bond isn’t just a character, he’s a legend, and legends don’t really *die*. He belongs to all of us, and in a way, he’s timeless. That movie just didn’t feel right, making it seem like he could actually be gone for good.
If I had to write that script tomorrow, I’d be stuck. It’s hard to even imagine where to begin – you definitely can’t have the character waking up in the shower and claiming it was all a dream.
The upcoming film won’t continue the story from the previous ones. It’s a fresh start for the series with a new James Bond actor, so it’s doubtful we’ll see any connection to the ending of ‘No Time to Die’.
Denis Villeneuve will direct the upcoming film, and Steven Knight, known for his work on *Peaky Blinders*, wrote the screenplay. Knight recently told TopMob he didn’t have any particular actor in mind while writing it.
He wouldn’t discuss the next installment in the series when asked, simply saying, ‘I can’t talk about it.’
