In movie theaters starting from last Wednesday, July 2nd, the newest addition to the Jurassic series, titled Jurassic World Dominion, has had a promising debut at the box office.
According to Deadline’s report, the movie earned a global total of $56.5 million on its first day. Of that amount, approximately $30.5 million was generated in the U.S., while the remaining $26 million came from international sales.
On its first day in the UK and Ireland, the film earned approximately $2.7 million. This is smaller than the opening-day revenue for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but larger than that of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and Spider-Man: Homecoming, all of which premiered on a Wednesday.
On their opening Wednesdays, the earnings from both Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Formula One were significantly surpassed, more than doubled in fact.
While the movie seems to be on its way to becoming a hit at the box office, its reviews from critics have been less unified.
The movie received a 51% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, which isn’t exceptionally low considering that it falls within the norm for Jurassic films.
In contrast, the original Jurassic Park, a timeless favorite, boasts an impressive 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to the initial Jurassic World film which garnered 72%.
Across all the movies in this series, they’ve received less-than-favorable reviews, with ratings ranging from a 56% on Rotten Tomatoes for The Lost World: Jurassic Park, all the way down to a 29% rating for Jurassic World Dominion.
In terms of box office earnings, each movie from the Jurassic World franchise has already grossed more than a billion dollars. It remains to be seen if the upcoming film, Jurassic World: Rebirth, will join this impressive club.
In a nutshell, the upcoming movie featuring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali was written by David Koepp. He was responsible for adapting Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park novel into Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film.
In the latest movie, they’ve included a well-known scene from the book that was previously omitted in the original film, namely the river rafting sequence. Initially, this wasn’t something Director Gareth Edwards knew about.
