The Voice is making some changes that will have viewers buzzing.
The 28th season of NBC’s singing competition begins September 22nd with coaches Michael Bublé, Niall Horan, Reba McEntire, and Snoop Dogg. This season, the popular Blind Auditions will include a new feature called the Carson Callback Card, which is expected to shake things up.
Host Carson Daly, who has been with the show since it began in 2011, will have a special card he can use during auditions. If none of the coaches turn their chairs for a singer, Daly can use the “Carson Callback Card” to give that artist another chance to perform a blind audition, as reported by *People* magazine.
Season 28 has another new change: instead of the coaches choosing which singers compete against each other in the Battle Rounds, the artists will now select their own opponents. This is a departure from previous seasons where the coaches made those pairings.
During the Knockout round, coaches will have a new ability called the “Mic Drop” button. Each coach can use it on one of their team members. After all coaches have used their button, viewers will vote for one of the four selected artists, and the winner will perform at the Rose Parade on January 1st.
This season’s Playoffs will work a bit differently than before. In the past, each coach chose two singers to go through to the Live Shows. Now, coaches will only pick one artist, and viewers will choose two. This means fewer singers will advance – six instead of the usual eight.
Viewers can still look forward to the familiar elements-and faces-they love about the show. The coaching panel this season is made up of returning judges, though not all of them have coached together in the past.
