Stephen King has discussed the upcoming *Black Phone 2* after it premiered at a film festival. He shared his thoughts on social media just before the movie is scheduled to hit theaters in October 2025.
What Stephen King said about Black Phone 2
Stephen King has seen the sequel to *The Black Phone* and shared his enthusiastic reaction on X (formerly Twitter). He posted, “It’s not as good as the first one. IT’S BETTER!” along with a promotional image of the film, which features Ethan Hawke and a chilling, snow-covered mask. The movie, directed by Scott Derrickson, is scheduled to be released on October 17, 2025.
The sequel to *The Black Phone* premiered at Fantastic Fest before hitting theaters nationwide. The film quickly gained attention thanks to an endorsement from Stephen King, a highly respected figure in horror. This support was especially meaningful because King’s son, Joe Hill, actually wrote the original short story that inspired *The Black Phone*.
The next installment of the story features the return of Ethan Hawke as The Grabber, Mason Thames as Finn, and Madeleine McGraw as Gwen. Jeremy Davies and Miguel Mora reprise their roles, and they’re joined by new cast members Demián Bichir, Arianna Rivas, Maev Beaty, and Graham Abbey. Set four years after Finn escaped his kidnapper, the movie explores Gwen’s unsettling premonitions and Finn’s struggle to move on from his trauma. Scott Derrickson directs and co-writes the screenplay with C. Robert Cargill, based on characters created by Joe Hill.
I’m really excited about this new film! It’s being produced by Jason Blum, Scott Derrickson, and Cargill, with some great folks like Hill, Adam Hendricks, and Ryan Turek as executive producers. It’s set to hit theaters on October 17, 2025, and the story follows Gwen as she starts getting these creepy calls in her dreams through a black phone. This leads her and Finn on a journey to Alpine Lake during a bad winter storm, where they come face-to-face with an even more terrifying version of The Grabber – and it turns out his story is deeply connected to their family’s past.
