The popular show Baywatch, which originally aired from 1989 to 2001, is getting a reboot! Fox has officially ordered a full season of the new series.
A 12-episode revival of the show is scheduled to premiere on Fox during the 2026-2027 television season. Fox Entertainment and Fremantle are partnering to produce it.
Matt Nix will lead the series as showrunner and executive producer. Joining him as executive producers are the original creators of the show – Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, and Doug Schwartz – along with Dante Di Loreto.
Michael Thorn, head of Fox Television, announced that the classic show *Baywatch* is returning. He explained that the original series was hugely popular and made lifeguards famous. Now, Fox is teaming up with Fremantle to bring a new version of the show to audiences today.
Fox and Fremantle, working with creators Matt Nix and Greg Bonann, are reimagining Baywatch for a new audience. The updated series will feature new stories, exciting new actors, and all the action and drama that made the original show famous around the world.

Fremantle CEO Christian Vesper stated that *Baywatch* is a valuable and iconic show with a lasting legacy, and they’ve teamed up with Fox to ensure it remains that way.
We’re lucky to have Matt Nix leading the project – he’s a fantastic storyteller. We want to bring back longtime fans and also attract a new audience to this iconic lifeguard world.
As of now, no actors have signed on to the film, which has been in the works since 2018.
Baywatch first aired as a popular TV series for eleven seasons, and was later revisited with a reunion movie. The show followed the lives of a group of lifeguards.
The show featured a cast including David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Alexandra Paul, Gregory Alan Williams, Jeremy Jackson, Billy Warlock, Erika Eleniak, and Yasmine Bleeth.
A film reboot was previously released in 2017, starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.
