Violet Affleck is bringing her advocacy to the mainstage.
The oldest child of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck recently spoke to the United Nations, urging continued support for mask-wearing and clean air programs in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
A 19-year-old spoke at the Healthy Indoor Air event on September 23rd, explaining that while leaders often say young people are the future, the current pandemic is negatively impacting their lives right now. The speaker, who wore a mask, felt their present was being taken away.
As someone who’s been closely following the long Covid conversation, I was really struck by what a Yale student-who actually *had* Covid back in 2019 and recovered-was saying. She feels like, in our rush to get things ‘back to normal,’ people are completely overlooking how easily this spreads through the air and how serious the ongoing effects of long Covid can be. It’s like we’re pretending it’s not happening, or minimizing the risk, and she thinks that’s a huge mistake.
She explained that young people didn’t have genuine options and weren’t fully informed about the decisions being made on their behalf.
She presented findings about SARS-CoV-2, the virus behind COVID-19, and its potential long-term effects on people’s health.
Violet expressed deep concern for children growing up with long-term pain and exhaustion from Covid-19. She worries they won’t be able to fully enjoy childhood – playing, exploring, and using their imaginations – and that the virus could limit their cognitive development and potential.
The teen concluded her message with a call to action: focus on creating clean air infrastructure.

She expressed her optimism for the event and her faith in the community, stating that we’re capable of achieving great things together, just as we have before. She believes access to clean air should be considered a basic human right, as naturally as we view clean water as essential.
Violet has spoken publicly about health issues before. Most recently, in July 2024, she shared her personal experiences with the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and urged them to take steps to address these concerns.
Violet stated that to address the ongoing challenges of long COVID, she is requesting that the government provide masks, improve air filtration, and install far-UVC lights in all government buildings, including correctional facilities. She also called for mask requirements in county hospitals and medical centers.
Violet isn’t alone in sharing her health journey. Here are other celebrities who have also opened up about their experiences.

Former *Total Bellas* star Nikki Bella shared that a breast implant moved out of place after being hit in the chest by Piper Niven during a wrestling match in July 2025.
She reassured her sister, Bella Garcia, saying they would get the issue resolved eventually. She explained to the doctor that as soon as she finalized her divorce and retired from her current job, she would return to address the problem and ensure everything looked its best, anticipating future use and wanting it to be presentable.

Lupita Nyong’o received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids-non-cancerous growths in or around the womb-in 2014, which was also the year she won an Academy Award for her acting.
She didn’t share her diagnosis until 2025, when she revealed on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with the condition for over ten years.
She explained that many girls are taught to accept period pain as a normal part of being a woman. This often leaves them dealing with a common issue in silence and feeling isolated.

In July 2025, the actress from *Daisy Jones & The Six* revealed she was hospitalized for a hernia. This happened because she’d been wearing pants that were too tight, which caused a gap in her abdominal muscles.
Someone messaged Suki on X (formerly Twitter) asking why she hadn’t tweeted recently. Suki replied, jokingly suggesting the reason was a hernia she got six months ago from wearing very tight pants, and that she’d been afraid to mention it.

The former star of *Beverly Hills, 90210* shared in April 2025 that he was recovering from surgery to fix a nearly ruptured appendix.
Brian shared in an Instagram video that he recently experienced stomach pain which led him to the emergency room. He explained he had a perforated appendix – it hadn’t fully burst, but was very close to doing so.
He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

A Racing Louisville midfielder fell to the ground early in her team’s game against Seattle Reign on September 14th at Lumen Field in Seattle.
According to Reuters, the U.S. Women’s National Team player sat down on the field with a teammate supporting her, and then quickly collapsed. Trainers were immediately called to assess her condition.
The National Women’s Soccer League reported that Savannah received immediate medical attention on the field and was taken to a nearby hospital for more tests. They stated she is currently in stable condition and is alert.

As someone who’s always advocating for prioritizing well-being, I found Adam Devine’s recent revelation really resonated with me. He shared that an accident he had as a child – he was hit by a cement truck when he was just 11 – continues to cause him issues even now. It’s a powerful reminder that past physical trauma can have lasting effects, and it’s so important to address those, no matter how long ago they happened.
“It’s been incredibly difficult,” Devine shared on the 2025 episode of the *In Depth With Graham Bensinger* podcast. “I’ve been experiencing spasms all over my body, and doctors recently told me I was facing a life-threatening situation-within the last year, actually.”
He acknowledged that pain is often temporary, explaining that his body has some minor imperfections and doesn’t always function perfectly.

A former contestant on *The Bachelor* went to the hospital in extreme pain, reportedly crawling because his back hurt so badly. The pain flared up during a road trip with a friend while traveling in an RV.
He described a strange tingling sensation that still lingered in his legs as of March 2025, sharing this on his *Trading Secrets* podcast. To illustrate the extent of the issue, he explained that just a few weeks prior, he’d been squatting nearly 300 pounds. Now, he can’t even balance on one foot to do a squat and often falls over, comparing the feeling to having a stroke.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

Gina Kirschenheiter, from *The Real Housewives of Orange County*, revealed that her ex-husband, Matt Kirschenheiter, had a heart attack in March 2025, but he is recovering well.

In March 2025, the actor from *30 Rock* experienced a medical issue at a New York Knicks game and had to be helped out of Madison Square Garden.
The comedian later posted on social media to explain that he hadn’t been feeling well due to food poisoning, but was now recovering.

In February 2025, the former *Even Stevens* star revealed she was shot in the face during a birthday outing with her husband, Brendan Rooney. They were on a trip to go clay pigeon shooting when the incident occurred.
In an Instagram post, she explained that she was accidentally shot in the face by someone at a party who fired a weapon unsafely. Brendan Rooney quickly helped her, evaluating her injuries and immediately taking her to the hospital. She was hit five times, and one bullet narrowly missed her right eye, coming within an inch of a direct hit.
The *Kim Possible* actress explained that a small piece of something got stuck behind her eye. Doctors have advised against removing it with surgery right now, but they will keep a close watch on her condition, as her vision is currently normal.
As someone who spends a lot of time thinking about well-being, I was really moved by a recent statement from an actress. She shared how incredibly grateful she is to simply be alive, and it was a powerful reminder for all of us. She talked about how much she cherishes her daughters, her husband, her family, and her friends – and honestly, it resonated deeply. She described experiencing a moment where she saw her whole life pass before her, and her message was so clear: hold your loved ones tight whenever you can. Because life really can change in an instant, and those connections are what truly matter.

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, despite its downsides, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier,” Schumer was surprised when doctors began commenting on her appearance after press interviews. They suggested she might have Cushing syndrome, potentially caused by steroid injections. This prompted Schumer to realize she *had* been receiving steroid injections following a breast reduction and C-section. She later learned she had a form of Cushing syndrome that would resolve on its own, and was incredibly relieved to receive a good diagnosis. As she shared, finding out she was healthy was the best news she could have hoped for.

During a game in December 2024, an AHL player was accidentally cut in the face by another player’s skate and needed 25 stitches to close the wound. After his son made a full recovery, New Jersey Devils General Manager Tom Fitzgerald shared with ESPN how relieved they were, saying, “We feel very lucky, and I wouldn’t want any parent to go through that.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin. She suddenly began having stroke-like symptoms, struggling to speak and noticing her face drooping. Although the symptoms briefly subsided, she went to the hospital for evaluation. Doctors discovered she’d had a small blood clot travel to her brain, which they identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack), sometimes called a mini-stroke. Further testing at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart, known as a patent foramen ovale (PFO). This hole allowed the blood clot to reach her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey successfully underwent a procedure to close the hole and is now recovering well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.
In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the condition affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on one side. He also mentioned it became increasingly difficult for him to eat.
Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on *Good Morning America* that Justin was recovering well, adding that while the situation was frightening and unexpected, he was going to be okay and she was thankful he was fine.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I was SO worried about Jamie Foxx! He kept everything so private at first, which just made me even more anxious. Then, in his Netflix special, *What Had Happened Was…*, he finally told us what happened. He was in Atlanta and got this terrible headache, and he asked someone for an aspirin, but he *blacked out* before he could even take it! He said he doesn’t remember the next twenty days! Can you imagine?!
Apparently, he went to a doctor who just gave him a shot and sent him home, but thankfully his sister, Deidra, knew something was seriously wrong and drove him to the hospital. They discovered he’d had a brain bleed that caused a stroke. It was terrifying!
Twenty days later, on May 4th, he woke up in a wheelchair, unable to walk! He had to go to Chicago for rehab and therapy, and he said it was a long road. He keeps saying how much he appreciates all the prayers, and honestly, he *needed* them. I’m just so relieved he’s on the mend and sharing his story. He’s such an inspiration!

The reality TV star shared that she temporarily stopped breathing while running a mile during the first challenge on the NBC competition show.
She shared on the show *Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser* that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling like she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, everything went dark, but she then experienced a bright light. This led her to realize she had died that day.
She explained that her organs were failing. She hadn’t known she had rhabdomyolysis, a condition where the body essentially begins to shut down.

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in *Game of Thrones*, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for *The New Yorker*. While filming the series, she experienced a sudden and severe headache while at the gym. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.
A hospital scan quickly revealed a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. She had suffered an aneurysm, a rupture in an artery. Immediate surgery was performed to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, struggling to speak coherently.
After a week, her speech returned, and she was discharged from the hospital a month later. However, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had grown, requiring a second surgery. This procedure was unsuccessful, leading to a massive bleed and a dire prognosis. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.
Fortunately, Emilia reports she has now made a full recovery and is at 100

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, recently shared how much she appreciates her family’s support. In January 2024, she suffered a stroke and immediately reached out to her loved ones, sending them a picture and a message. She told TopMob News that everyone quickly came to her aid.
Cori ended up staying in the hospital longer than expected due to other health issues. While she could have gone home after the stroke, she was also dealing with lupus and kidney problems.
Now, Cori is recovering well. She says she’s feeling great and is regaining her motor skills. Overall, she’s doing much better.

Shailene Woodley struggled with significant health issues throughout her 20s. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she explained that she experienced hearing loss, debilitating fatigue, and persistent stomach pain. She consulted many doctors but received conflicting diagnoses.
Drawing on her background in herbalism and holistic health, Shailene sought a combination of traditional medical care and alternative healing methods, hoping to find relief and understand what was happening to her body.
The journey took a full decade. She explained that the physical discomfort led to anxiety around food and eventually contributed to body image issues and a struggle with her sense of self.
Fortunately, after years of addressing both her physical and mental wellbeing, Shailene is now healthy and feels much better. She’s grateful to be able to say she has fully recovered.
