There have been reports of difficulties surrounding Kojima Productions‘ “OD” project due to layoffs at Xbox studios and the termination of long-in-progress projects. However, it’s important to clarify that the project is still active, but there are rumors suggesting it’s looking for a new publisher following Microsoft’s recent job cuts.
In a report by Jez Corden of Windows Central, he shared information from his sources indicating that contrary to Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer’s statements about giving teams time for their projects, the game Everwild has been cancelled. Additionally, it is said that Rare, the team behind Everwild, may experience a broader restructuring, which could potentially lead to layoffs.
Developed by Xbox Game Studios and utilizing Unreal Engine 5 technology, the horror game OD integrates their cloud gaming tech and features input from actor/director Jordan Peele in its narrative. Previously, Kojima described it as a unique game that presented him with a fresh challenge.
The progress of our project encountered difficulties due to SAG-AFTRA strikes, leading to a halt in scanning and filming activities. Fortunately, the strike was called off last month following a preliminary agreement between the union and video game companies. As such, we expect work on OD to have resumed by now. Keep an eye out for further updates in the interim.
