No Halloween would be complete without a new “Treehouse of Horror” episode from *The Simpsons*! This year, the show is delivering another spooky installment filled with terrifyingly funny stories. Like past episodes, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie will put a comical spin on classic horror themes. And to make things even scarier, Fox is bringing in some well-known celebrities to add to the frights on Evergreen Terrace.
A sneak peek at *The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XXXVI* reveals that Idris Elba, Ike Barinholtz, Viola Davis, and Michael Keaton will be guest starring in this year’s spooky Halloween special. The episode will feature a monster lurking in the sewers, a demonic guest on Krusty the Clown’s live show, and a look at Springfield 1,000 years in the future after a plastic-figure apocalypse. *Treehouse of Horror XXXVI* airs on FOX on Sunday, October 19th, from 8:00-8:31 PM ET/PT.
Treehouse of Horror’s Past And Future
I’m so excited for this year’s Treehouse of Horror! It’s always fun trying to guess what they’re spoofing, and they’ve always been great at poking fun at popular movies, shows, and spooky tales. One segment seems to involve a monster from the sewers, which immediately made me think of Stephen King’s *It* – they’ve actually done a take on Pennywise before! But with the new *It* series coming to HBO Max, maybe they’re circling back to that world. It’ll be interesting to see if that’s the case!
Krusty the Clown is filming a segment that seems to be a spoof of the horror movie *Late Night With The Devil*, which features a terrifying experience on a late-night talk show. We’re unsure what one particular story refers to – it appears to involve a disastrous future with “poseable plastic” toys. To understand what’s planned for Halloween in Springfield this year, it might help to look at how the town has celebrated it in the past.
The first *Treehouse of Horror* episode of *The Simpsons* aired about thirty-five years ago in 1990, and it quickly became a tradition for the show to explore spooky and supernatural stories. With *The Simpsons* renewed through at least season forty, we can likely look forward to several more Halloween specials before the series ends. Given how long the show has been on the air, it’s hard to say when it will finally conclude, but the *Treehouse of Horror* episodes are something fans will definitely miss when new adventures in Springfield stop airing.
