Clap Hanz has a long history with the Everybody’s Golf series, starting with the original game on PlayStation 1. However, they weren’t the developers of the newest version, which came out earlier this month for PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
Sony gave Bandai Namco the rights to develop games based on the franchise, while still owning the original concept and characters, but otherwise stepped back from active involvement.
The game’s okay, but it’s sloppy in several key areas, and that’s led to a lot of complaints.
It’s unfortunate that many fans have been contacting the original game developers, Clap Hanz, for support, despite the fact that they weren’t involved in this particular game.
In a recent statement, CEO Masashi Muramori highlighted the positive reception of their newest game, Easy Come Easy Golf, which is essentially the same as the popular Everybody’s Golf series under a different title.
However, as his message continues, he says:
We often get questions about Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots because of our history with the Everybody’s Golf series. While we’re happy to help with updates and support for games we’ve directly created for SIE, we weren’t the team behind Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots. We appreciate your understanding.
It’s surprising to us that Easy Come Easy Golf hasn’t been released on the PS5, and we’re really curious about what happened between Sony and the game’s developer, Clap Hanz. Currently, it’s only playable on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.
It seems likely the shutdown of Japan Studio played a big role, since they were the producers behind the game. However, it’s still disappointing to see this partnership end so poorly, and it must be frustrating for Clap Hanz to watch the series they helped create for years now move to a different publisher.
