Marvel hasn’t announced a release date for the new *X-Men* movie, but it’s currently being developed. Jake Schreier, who directed *Thunderbolts*, will be directing, aiming to bring a new take to the beloved superhero team. While fans are excited about the possibility of seeing the original *X-Men* actors from the Fox films return in the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday* (and maybe *Avengers: Secret Wars*), they’re also curious about who will play the new versions of these classic characters. Actor Harris Dickinson, known for his roles in *The King’s Man* and *Babygirl*, has been a fan favorite for the role of Cyclops, and he’s now responded to the rumors in a way that might surprise some.
So, I was listening to the *Happy Sad Confused* podcast, and they asked me about the *X-Men* stuff. Honestly? I haven’t been super impressed with the characters they’ve been doing with the *X-Men* in the last five to ten years. The villains have had some interesting moments, though. But what *really* gets me excited is working with directors who have a strong vision and want to tell meaningful stories – especially with characters that feel a little more grounded in reality, you know?
Could James Bond Be Harris Dickinson’s Future Instead of Marvel?
It’s interesting to hear a promising actor like Dickinson openly say he’s not very interested in playing a superhero. While many actors dream of a long-term role in a big franchise, everyone has different career goals. Almost everyone in Hollywood has appeared in a Marvel film at this point, but some major stars still avoid those types of roles. Dickinson seems to be aiming to be one of them.
It’s understandable why Dickinson is hesitant about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While recent films like *Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3* and *Deadpool & Wolverine* have done well, many projects in the Multiverse Saga haven’t been as successful, receiving mixed reviews and underperforming in theaters. This is a big change from the Infinity Saga era, when every Marvel movie was almost guaranteed to be a hit and boost the careers of its stars. Given this recent inconsistency, Dickinson likely wants to avoid potentially harming his career by starring in a film that doesn’t perform well at the box office.
Besides potentially playing Cyclops, Henry Dickinson has also been considered for the role of James Bond. He mentioned the character and the Bond universe in a recent podcast, describing them as appealing. If he were to become 007, he’d be working with director Denis Villeneuve, known for his artistic vision. However, it’s unclear if this will happen, as Villeneuve isn’t starting casting until next year and is looking for someone relatively unknown. While Dickinson isn’t a huge star yet, he’s appeared in several well-known projects like *The King’s Man* and *Babygirl*. He’s also set to play John Lennon in an upcoming biopic directed by Sam Mendes about The Beatles.
Dickinson hasn’t ruled out joining Marvel, but it would have to be the right role. He’s particularly interested in playing a villain, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a history of strong, complex antagonists that allow actors to deliver memorable performances. He’d likely prefer a shorter commitment rather than a long-term contract. Ultimately, though, he might choose to focus on independent films and work with different directors on various projects instead of staying with one franchise.
