You can download and keep a PC role-playing game (RPG) on Steam for free right now, but you only have about 24 hours to claim the offer. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t work properly on the Steam Deck, according to Valve’s testing. If you’re playing on a regular PC, you won’t have any issues.
Pilgrim Adventures and GrabTheGames are currently offering their dark RPG, *The Deed*, as a free download on Steam. Originally released in 2015, the game is approaching its 10th anniversary on November 13th. But first, you can add it to your library and keep it forever until September 27th at 1:00 PM EST.
About the Game + Trailer
The Deed is a dark mystery game where you play as Arran Bruce, who returns home to find his inheritance given to his sister. After being cut out of his father’s will, Arran decides to kill his sister and reclaim what he believes is rightfully his. The game blends classic adventure elements with RPG features, and your main goal is to commit the perfect murder and avoid getting caught.
Steam players generally like *The Deed*, even though it’s not a graphically stunning game and keeps things relatively simple. It currently has a 91% positive rating on Steam, earning it a “Very Positive” overall review score.
I’ve been checking out Steam reviews, and it looks like the game is pretty short – you can beat the main story in just a couple of hours. But people are saying it’s super replayable because figuring out all the mechanics and actually pulling off a perfect murder takes a lot of practice and planning. It’s one of those games where it’s easy to pick up, but hard to master, apparently.
Sequels
Following the original game, an expanded version called *The Deed: Dynasty* came out on Steam in 2016. Then, in 2020, a true sequel, *The Deed II*, was released. While neither game is currently available as a free download, both are discounted on Steam for under $1.
The games shown in the trailer aren’t major, high-budget titles – they’re more on the smaller side. However, if you enjoy classic adventure games and mysteries, these could be just what you’re looking for. If you prefer larger, more expansive games, a popular first-person shooter was recently released for free on Steam.
