Though *King of the Hill* has evolved over the years, a significant turning point happened 26 years ago with the introduction of a new character to the Hill family. The show recently returned with a new season set eight to nine years after the original series ended, offering fresh perspectives on Hank and the familiar characters. Some of these characters have changed quite a bit since we last saw them.
Over its many seasons, *King of the Hill* featured several memorable episodes, and a particularly impactful one occurred between seasons three and four. The season three finale left viewers wondering about Peggy’s fate after a skydiving accident. However, the season four premiere, which aired 26 years ago today, revealed that Peggy had survived and had a surprising addition to the family: Hank’s previously unknown brother, Good Hank. This episode marked our first real introduction to this new member of the Hill family.
King of the Hill Introduced Hank’s New Brother

The third season of *King of the Hill* hinted at Cotton and Didi’s new baby. By the season’s end, Bobby unexpectedly helped deliver the child. The fourth season fully introduced the baby, and along with it, Hank’s half-brother, Good Hank. This was a surprising development, considering the often-difficult relationship between Hank and Cotton.
I always loved the relationship between Hank and his dad – it was so cool to watch it grow over the years! The show really built on that connection, and it was fascinating to see how Hank treated his own son, then think about how *he* was treated by his dad. Things got hilarious when Hank’s dad, Cotton, started dating someone from Hank’s elementary school – Didi even jokingly asked Hank if he still enjoyed finger painting! That’s when Didi really became a major part of the family dynamic, and I loved it.
Learning his father was having a baby so easily, especially after Hank’s own difficulties with having children, stirred up complicated emotions. Adding to this, his brother being seen as the ideal son his father always wanted opened up possibilities for Hank’s character development. However, fans wouldn’t see this potential fully explored until much later, with Season 14 of *King of the Hill* bringing back a more mature version of the ‘good’ Hank, revisiting themes of his character.
King of the Hill Finally Explores Good Hank 26 Years Later

While the show *King of the Hill* hinted at Hank’s insecurities, it didn’t fully revisit the idea until many years later with the Hulu revival. The episode “No Hank Left Behind” brings the Hill brothers – including Junichiro, who lives in Japan – back together when their father’s estate is settled and each brother receives an inheritance. This forces Hank to spend time with his younger brother, ultimately proving to be a positive experience for both of them.
Hank attended a seminar focused on men’s issues, which unexpectedly helped him connect with his brother on a deeper level. Having grown up without a father, his brother worried he might repeat their father’s negative patterns. However, Hank’s initiative to rebuild their relationship as adults will likely prevent this. Hank overcoming his own issues with their father was a significant achievement, ensuring his brother won’t be burdened by the same harmful traits.
It’s great that *King of the Hill* revisited a storyline from 26 years ago. This allowed the show to delve deeper into Hank’s character. Hank has always kept his emotions to himself, but his relationship with ‘Good Hank’ is helping him work through difficult experiences with his own father. It’s a significant development and suggests positive changes for him going forward.
