Ellen DeGeneres is remembering someone dear to her.
Ellen DeGeneres recently honored Tayt Andersen, a frequent guest on her talk show, who passed away on September 26th at the age of 19. His family shared that his death followed a worsening infection as he bravely fought cancer.
Ellen shared a touching story about a frequent guest named Tayt, who sadly recently passed away. In a video posted to Instagram, she explained that Tayt believed she was his girlfriend, so she playfully responded by telling him he was her boyfriend.
The 67-year-old fondly remembered Tayt, describing him as a remarkably joyful child who brightened up any space he entered.
Ellen, who has been married to Portia de Rossi since 2008, seemed to be holding back tears as she said she would miss him.
A video showed Tayt appearing on the talk show many times, and his mother, Chrissy Andersen, explained that he was born with a serious heart condition. Despite needing 12 surgeries before turning nine, Tayt loved watching the show so much that he’d ask to schedule doctor’s appointments around it. He even made his nurses watch every episode with him, finding joy in the program even during difficult times.
Tayt’s family announced his death on Instagram, sharing that he passed away peacefully on September 26th, surrounded by loved ones. He had been diagnosed with bladder cancer earlier in 2024.
It’s hard to put into words how heartbroken we all are, but amidst this incredible sadness, there’s a sense of peace knowing Tayt is finally at rest. We’re so grateful he’s no longer suffering – no more pain, no more endless doctor’s visits, and no more treatments. It’s a relief to know he’s free from all of that now.
Family members said the teenager had an infection. He was fully aware and able to communicate on Sunday, but experienced severe pain throughout the night. He remained peacefully asleep and didn’t wake up, passing away early this morning.
In the day leading up to his passing, he made sure to connect with loved ones, calling and video chatting to say goodbye. He also enjoyed spending time with the things he loved most – his favorite movies and books.
“We knew Tayt time was limited,” they wrote, “but we honestly just weren’t ready to lose him.”
They shared that no words could express how much they were hurting, and they were simply trying to cope with the loss while cherishing the memories of their wonderful son.
