Resident Evil Requiem Director and Producer Address Lack of Leon, Not “Passing The Torch”

Before Tokyo Game Show, everyone was buzzing about whether we’d finally see Leon S. Kennedy in Capcom’s *Resident Evil Requiem*. Well, we just had the State of Play and a PlayStation Japan event, and honestly, it’s still a mystery! IGN got a look at a new trailer, but sadly, Leon wasn’t anywhere to be seen. I’m still hoping, though!

When we mentioned this to game director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazama at TGS, they both chuckled. Kumazama assured us they’d consider the feedback. When asked about rumors and whether they impacted Grace being the only playable character we knew of, he said they were pleased with how much interest the game was generating.

Kumazawa openly discussed the idea of *Requiem* marking a shift in the franchise’s direction, but clarified that it won’t be a complete reboot. While future storylines aren’t fully decided, he doesn’t believe they’ll disregard the established history and lore of the series. It won’t be a ‘passing of the torch’ in the sense of starting completely fresh.

I also didn’t want to constantly rely on established characters when making new games, and that’s why we created Grace.

The new game, *Resident Evil Requiem*, will be available on February 27, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Originally, it wasn’t planned for release on Nintendo’s console, but that has changed. You can find more details here, and there’s some great footage available showing how the game looks and plays on the Switch 2’s handheld mode.
