Avengers Tower, originally Stark Tower and first appearing in *The Avengers*, is a famous landmark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has been central to many key events. While Tony Stark sold it in *Spider-Man: Homecoming*, the new owner remained unknown until *Thunderbolts*. It was then revealed that Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine – a CIA director and head of the OXE Group – had purchased the building, though other villains might have been a more fitting choice.
Valentina Allegra de Fontaine purchased Avengers Tower and converted it into the Watchtower, establishing it as a headquarters for Robert Reynolds, also known as the Sentry (played by Lewis Pullman) – a hero she essentially created. Before it was public knowledge that Valentina had bought the tower, fans speculated about who might move in, and some of those guesses were more exciting than the actual reveal. Popular theories included the Fantastic Four turning it into a new Baxter Building, Doctor Doom establishing an embassy for Latveria, or Spider-Man’s Mister Negative taking control, and those were considered the most interesting possibilities.
3) Wilson Fisk’s Kingpin
A popular fan theory suggested Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, bought Avengers Tower in *Spider-Man: Homecoming*. Vincent D’Onofrio first played Fisk in the *Daredevil* series, which is now officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to Kingpin’s reappearance in *Hawkeye*. Besides being a major crime boss in New York, Fisk also runs a legal company called Fisk Industries, which could easily have been used as a cover for operating out of Avengers Tower.
Damage Control started as a company in Marvel Comics co-owned by Stark Industries and Fisk Industries. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), placing Wilson Fisk in the former Avengers Tower could have strengthened Damage Control’s presence, especially after its increased role in shows and movies like *Spider-Man: No Way Home*, *She-Hulk: Attorney at Law*, and *Ms. Marvel*. This would also have logically established Fisk as a known figure in New York’s business world before his run for mayor, as seen in *Daredevil: Born Again*.
2) Mister Gryphon
At the beginning of the Multiverse Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kang the Conqueror and different versions of him were set up as the main villains. We met various Kangs, including He Who Remains, Immortus, and Rama-Tut, and even saw a Kang variant seemingly taking over Avengers Tower. Interestingly, in the Marvel comics, Tony Stark actually sold Avengers Tower to Qeng Enterprises, a company run by Mister Gryphon – another version of Kang who aimed to build a new empire in modern times.
When Jonathan Majors was arrested, convicted, and let go by Marvel Studios in 2023, his character, Kang, was also removed from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans hoped Marvel would find a new actor to play Kang, and revealing Mr. Gryphon as the buyer of the former Avengers Tower could have been a way to introduce him. While Kang might reappear in the future, Marvel hasn’t confirmed any plans to recast the role. We briefly saw Avengers Tower labeled with “QENG” in the *Loki* season 1 episode set in the Void, and Marvel could have explored that connection further in the main MCU timeline.
1) Norman Osborn
A popular theory about who bought Avengers Tower centered on Norman Osborn, a famous villain from Spider-Man’s stories. Since he hadn’t appeared yet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having him purchase the tower and set up Oscorp there would have been a great way to introduce the character. However, a detail in *Spider-Man: No Way Home* revealed Oscorp didn’t exist in the MCU as of 2024, seemingly ending those hopes. More recently, *Spider-Man: Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man* has sparked renewed speculation about this possibility.
Colman Domingo, who voiced Norman Osborn in the animated series *Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man*, is a potential candidate to play the villain in live-action Marvel movies. Although Valentina currently controls Avengers Tower, the upcoming *Avengers: Secret Wars* could change things. Many fans would love to see Norman Osborn join the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, particularly as Tom Holland continues his role as Spider-Man, and perhaps even take over Avengers Tower as his base of operations.
