Not much is publicly known about James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow, but the director recently clarified some speculation. He responded to rumors suggesting that Brainiac would be a major villain in the movie.
What did James Gunn say about the Brainiac rumors in Man of Tomorrow?
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn addressed speculation that Brainiac will be the primary antagonist in the upcoming Superman movie. Last week, Gunn posted a picture of the Man of Tomorrow script online, and the script included a diagram of a brain.
This immediately sparked fan speculation that Brainiac, the famous Superman villain, would play a significant role in the film. Although Gunn didn’t officially confirm anything about the movie, he acknowledged being aware of the developments by posting the image.
“Look, I definitely knew posting the script’s cover would spark conversation about that subject,” Gunn explained. “But we’re going to keep details about what’s going on under wraps for now.”
Following Lex Luthor, Brainiac is widely considered Superman’s second most famous enemy, and there’s been speculation for some time that he’ll be the central villain in Man of Tomorrow. A fan on X recently suggested that actor Chukwudi Iwuji might be cast as Brainiac, and another X user supported this idea. They pointed out that James Gunn, on the official Peacemaker podcast, mentioned he deliberately avoided making Murn’s appearance official within the DCU. This, the user suggested, was to allow Iwuji to play a different character – potentially one that isn’t human.
The upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow, will be directed by Gunn, drawing from the DC characters originally created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The movie will bring back David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
Currently, we don’t yet know which actors from the first movie will be in the second one. After the sequel was officially announced, people online began speculating about who might star in it and what the story could be. Recent news indicates that Jason Momoa could play Lobo, alongside Milly Alcock as Supergirl.
The cast of Superman included Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Anthony Carrigan as Metarmorpho, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, and others. Since it came out, the film has been rated Certified Fresh with a score of 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. During its time in theaters, Superman made over $600 million worldwide.
