Halloween is almost here, and HBO Max is bringing the frights all month long! Already a strong choice for horror lovers thanks to its collection of both classic and new scary movies-including It, Companion, and The Conjuring Universe-HBO Max will add 57 more horror films in October 2025. These new titles build on the horror selections that arrived in September, such as Misery and The Cabin in the Woods, and will be available before the debut of the Stephen King series IT: Welcome to Derry on October 26th.
A spooky selection of movies will become available starting October 1st, giving HBO Max subscribers lots of choices for their Halloween movie marathons right away. More films will be added to the platform throughout the month.
Some of the biggest highlights include Coralie Fargeat’s acclaimed 2024 film The Substance and A24’s Bring Her Back. Fans can also look forward to new installments from the popular A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, and Insidious series. For younger viewers, HBO Max will feature more family-friendly spooky movies like Scooby-Doo (2002), Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, and Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride.

HBO Max has a fantastic selection of horror films, making it tough to choose what to watch for your Halloween movie marathon. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!
If you’re looking for one scary movie to watch this October on HBO Max, make it The Substance. This film follows a celebrity whose career is declining, and she tries a strange, underground serum hoping to regain her youthful looks-but it leads to terrifying results. It uses intense body horror to examine ideas about beauty standards, getting older, and the power structures in Hollywood, and Demi Moore delivers what many are calling the best performance of her career. The Substance appeared on several “best horror films of 2024” lists and is a truly shocking and impactful movie.
If you’re in the mood for a slasher film, consider Pearl: The X-Traordinary Origin Story, the second movie in Ti West’s X series. It again stars Mia Goth as the fascinating and unsettling main character. Other excellent streaming choices include Michael Dougherty’s horror anthology Trick ‘r Treat, which presents interconnected stories that aren’t shown in order, all taking place on Halloween night in one town; well-loved films like Halloween H20: 20 Years Later and Edward Scissorhands; and Drag Me to Hell, a fantastic horror movie that doesn’t get enough recognition, and boasts a truly memorable ending.
