Bunnie Xo Slams “Shallow” Comments About Jelly Roll’s Weight Loss

Bunnie Xo needs a favor from Jelly Roll’s fans: Careful with your words.

Following a comment from one listener about how attractive her husband is after losing 180 pounds, the host of the Dumb Blonde podcast responded with a kind but firm point.

“He’s remained the same person at heart,” she explained in a TikTok video posted on Sept. 28. “His core hasn’t changed. I think it’s fair to say he simply appears much healthier now that he’s lost weight.”

“We gotta stop living in a Shallow Hal world, guys,” she continued referencing Jack Black and Gwyneth Paltrow’s 2001 romcom. “’Cause you know what, you might miss out on the best love of your life by judging somebody by their weight.”

Bunnie wrote in the video’s caption, “He’s always been amazing. I’ll always support him, no matter his size.”

And she’s been along for the ride ever since the country singer kicked off his health journey.

In 2015, I tipped the scales at over 500 pounds – I’m not exactly sure how much, as the doctor’s scale maxed out at 500 lbs,” Jason Bradley DeFord, known as Jelly Roll, shared on Instagram in 2018. “They jokingly suggested I go to a meat processing plant or a truck stop to find out my true weight. It was one of the most humiliating days of my life.”

“I’ve struggled with obesity since childhood,” he went on. “Being overweight is all I’ve ever known, and it makes me incredibly unhappy. I dream of doing exciting things like skydiving, bungee jumping, riding a bull, and parasailing. I also want to be able to enjoy roller coasters, truly live a full life, and have a healthy relationship with food.”

He began walking more often, focused on a diet rich in protein and vegetables, and used the Internet to help him stay on track.

“I weighed 357 pounds this morning,” the 40-year-old shared with Pat McAfee on his Big Night Aht live show in April. “I plan to lose another 100 pounds and then go skydiving with my wife in Sweden!”

Jelly Roll reached another career high on Sept. 15. He posted on Instagram, sharing pictures of himself performing in Vatican City and joking, “I can fit in Louis Vuitton now.” He added, “Pray for my bank account.”

And Bunnie says her husband frequently brings her to church, playfully calling him, “The hunkiest hunk of them all.”

And he’s not alone. Read on for more stars who have been candid about their weight loss journeys…

The Fresh Off the Boat alum used to weigh 300 pounds and lost 130, showcasing his journey on TikTok.

Tammy Slaton is known as a star on TLC’s 1,000-Lb. Sisters, but she didn’t want to be defined by that role indefinitely.

“I’ve lost 500 pounds, give or take,” the 38-year-old shared in a private moment on her show, which aired in April 2025. “I used to weigh over 700 pounds, but now I’m at 238.”

In 2022, she had weight loss surgery, and her doctor believes it was the correct decision for her health.

Dr. Eric Smith shared with People in October 2024 that Tammy has consistently shown how dedicated she is to adopting a more sustainable lifestyle to get the most out of her surgery. He explained that he’s stressed the value of making little changes each day, both to keep her improving and to help her stay healthy for years to come. He added that she is genuinely focused on her wellness journey.

It seems as if every time Jelly Roll hits a red carpet, he’s down a sizable slice of weight.

I was absolutely blown away hearing this! The singer, Jason DeFord, shared with Pat McAfee back in April 2025 – during his awesome Big Night Aht live show – that he’d gone from 540 pounds all the way down to 357 this morning! And get this – he’s determined to lose another 100 pounds and celebrate by skydiving with his wife in Sweden. How incredible is that, baby!

The 6-foot-1 artist shared that he had to completely change his approach to food to achieve his goals. “I’ve always believed there’s a strong link between obesity and mental wellbeing,” he said on the October 2024 episode of On Purpose With Jay Shetty. “I understand how simple it sounds when people say, ‘Just eat less and exercise more,’ but I wish I could have thought about food that way myself.”

Jelly Roll observed that losing weight still felt like a huge challenge – “the mountain” – but he was pleased to see that the changes he’d made to his daily routine were actually helping.

He explained that he’s actively learning and putting in a lot of effort. “I’m treating it with the seriousness it deserves,” he said, adding that he’s also focusing on his health by drinking plenty of water, cold plunging, and eating a healthy diet. He feels he’s making good progress.

Al Roker wasn’t kidding around with the title of his cookbook Recipes to Live By.

After successfully losing 100 pounds through dedication and effort, the longtime TODAY weatherman truly practices what he preaches – he walks extensively (striving for a minimum of 10,000 steps each day), pays attention to his diet, and makes time for exercise every day.

“I always say that doing a little bit is better than doing nothing at all,” he explained to People magazine in an interview from June 2025. “You might end up training for and completing marathons, or even getting into weightlifting, but for most people, the goal is simply to get fit enough to feel better overall.”

In 2002, Al Roker had gastric bypass surgery to begin improving his health, but he admitted, “There’s no quick fix.”

Surgery is “not the end,” he advised. “You’re still going to have to put in the work.”

Former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, who was once famous for the “tush push” play, has recently been demonstrating his impressive physique.

The athlete was certainly fit throughout his 13 seasons in the NFL, but he’s lost at least 25 pounds since retiring. He mentioned at the 2025 Truist Championship pro-am golf tournament in Philadelphia that he currently weighs about 270 pounds, down from his 295-pound playing weight.

All of this contributes to his plans for retirement. “I’m aiming for a weight between 250 and 260 pounds because I want to stay in good shape and be happy with how I look, even without having very defined abs,” GQ reported in June 2024. “I still want to maintain a good physique, though.”

Ultimately, what mattered most to the dad of four daughters, whose wife is Kylie Kelce, was simply being able to keep up with his children.

At 277 pounds, he said, “My back already feels better.” He also noted, “My knees already feel better.” He’s hoping losing another 20 pounds will help him play with his children even more easily.

Moving to Ireland with her family wasn’t simply about a new location for Rosie O’Donnell; it actually made a positive difference in her life.

In a TikTok posted in March 2025, she revealed, “I’ve lost even more weight.” She explained, “I’m using Mounjaro to manage my diabetes, and weight loss is a common side effect.”

The former View cohost recently went shopping for clothes that fit better while in Dublin. “I’ve always struggled with my weight,” she explained, “and now that I’m a size large-instead of an XL or 2XL-I’m honestly surprised.”

Jazz Jennings started working on improving her health and fitness in 2022. She shared on Instagram two years later, “I’m finally prioritizing my well-being after a long time of not taking care of myself. I really lost track of healthy eating habits, and I’m so happy with the weight I’ve lost – it’s made me feel much more confident!”

In August 2024, the I Am Jazz star revealed she had lost nearly 100 pounds and expressed how “so proud” she was of the progress she’d made.

It turns out Christopher Schwarzenegger is a chip off the ol’ muscly block.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I’ve been following Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s youngest son – his kid with Maria Shriver – and he’s *amazing*! He was keeping a really low profile for a while, and I was worried, but apparently he was working on himself! He lost a full 30 pounds! I’m so proud of him, and now he’s back and better than ever! I’m seriously obsessed with seeing what he does next. It’s incredible!

It wasn’t a quick fix, but it involved a lot of experimentation,” he explained in May 2025 at the Inaugural Beacher Vitality Happy & Healthy Summit, adding that simply eliminating bread had a significant impact. “Even now, when I compare old and new photos, I don’t quite feel like I’ve reached my goal yet.”

Meanwhile, Christopher did not let a certain seven-time Mr. Olympia in on his plan.

“I would never have directly told him, ‘You’re overweight,’” my dad, Arnold, explained to The Times in June 2025. “Instead, we consistently offered him nutritious food and encouraged his involvement with the gym and fitness. Then, unexpectedly, he decided he wanted to get in shape, and now he has. It’s wonderful to see his self-discipline and motivation. I always believed it would ultimately have to come from him-and it did.”

Chrissy Metz admits she only enjoys running when she has to-like if someone were chasing her, she joked. However, she’s a strong believer in strength training, and regular workouts have been key to her 100-pound weight loss journey.

As a big fan, I was so interested to hear that aging well and staying strong is really my priority! I read in DailyMail.com back in April 2025 that This Is Us star said that’s actually the main reason behind everything she does. It’s inspiring to see her focus on that!

To Metz, aging gracefully means “staying strong and flexible,” so she tries to be active every day.

When John Goodman played Dan Conner on Roseanne in the 1990s, he was known for his large build-he even joked with David Letterman in 2010 that he once weighed close to 400 pounds. However, by the time The Conners began airing in 2018, the character-and Goodman himself-had made some changes to his lifestyle.

In 2007, Goodman stopped drinking, which marked the beginning of his journey to improve his health. He especially enjoyed boxing and taking his dogs for walks.

“I’m working hard, but staying calm,” he said to People magazine in 2010. He explained he had lost around 100 pounds by exercising six days a week and eliminating sugar from what he ate.

Overall, the 6-foot-2 actor has lost about 200 pounds since he was at his peak weight.

“I simply became exhausted and fed up with how I looked,” Goodman explained to ABC News in 2016. “It reached a point where shaving in the mirror was unpleasant – you actively avoid looking at your own reflection. It can become a really risky situation.”

Oprah Winfrey has been sharing the highs and lows of her weight loss journey for decades.

Starting with a memorable appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 1988 – where she famously wore skinny jeans and wheeled out a wagon filled with 67 pounds of fat – and continuing with her 2015 investment in WeightWatchers, she has consistently used her influence to promote discussions about weight and wellness.

Addressing the current popular topic, she shared in March 2024 on An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution that, in addition to eating less and exercising, she was using medication to manage her weight.

“It’s not just one thing,” she said of her secret to staying fit, “it’s multiple things.”

Winfrey shared that her intention with this program was to “begin to eliminate the negative feelings, embarrassment, and criticism-to stop judging others based on their weight or their decisions about weight loss-and, crucially, to stop being self-critical.”

Lizzo simply wanted to feel better from head to toe.

In a May 2023 TikTok video, the “Good as Hell” singer shared that working out became important for her mental well-being-to achieve emotional balance and feel good-so she could avoid self-criticism and negative feelings when looking in the mirror. She explained, “exercise has helped me shift my mind, not my body.”

In a TikTok post from January 2025, she shared that she was deliberately trying to lose weight, explaining that her aim was just to become the healthiest and happiest version of herself.

“Even after I lose weight, I won’t be considered traditionally thin,” Lizzo explained. “According to the BMI, I’ll still be classified as morbidly obese, and people online will probably still comment on my size – they might still call me ‘big backed.’ But I will be content.”

Just a moment later in the video, you see me – Lizzo – absolutely thrilled to share some amazing news! I was showing everyone a screenshot revealing I’d reduced my body fat by 16 percent and lowered my Body Mass Index (BMI) by 10.5 points. It was a really great moment, and I was so happy to share it with everyone. It’s all about progress, not perfection!

She added, “Just remember, you’re capable of anything you truly decide to do.” She continued, “Now it’s time to start thinking about what we want to achieve next.”
