Hulu Adds Almost Every Movie in One of the Best Modern Horror Franchises (Creating a Perfect October Binge)

October is finally here, and for many, that means the official start of Spooky Season! Time for pumpkins, lots of candy, and marathon-watching our favorite scary movie series. One series, which became popular in the 2000s, has often been difficult to find because its films were spread across different streaming platforms. But at the beginning of October, most of the movies moved to Hulu, making it much simpler to enjoy them.

The Saw franchise began in 2003 with the work of James Wan and Leigh Whannell, and it’s continued to be popular, though the quality of the films has varied quite a bit over time. Even with some movies receiving negative reviews, the Saw series still has a dedicated fanbase, and Jigsaw’s elaborate traps have had a significant and lasting impact on the horror genre.

The Saw franchise includes a total of 10 movies, which were released from 2004 to 2023. On October 1st, seven of these films became available on Hulu. These seven movies are the first installments in the series and tell the original, central story.

Hulu added all the original Saw movies on October 1st, including Saw, Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI, and Saw: The Final Chapter (also known as Saw 3D). These films were released yearly from 2004 to 2010 and generally follow a connected storyline. The series received a soft restart in 2017 with Jigsaw, then a new take with Spiral in 2021, and most recently, a prequel that connects back to the beginning with Saw X in 2023.

Before the entire Saw series became available this month, two of the movies – Jigsaw and Spiral – were already available on Hulu. Now, horror fans who want to watch all the Saw films in one place can stream all nine movies on Hulu.

Future Saw Movies

The Saw franchise has remained popular for the last twenty years because of its distinctive premise: the Jigsaw killer creates elaborate traps designed to teach his victims life lessons. There’s truly nothing quite like it, and that’s why fans are still eager for new installments. It’s a unique formula that keeps drawing audiences back.

Following the positive reception of Saw X, Lionsgate revealed plans for another sequel, initially aiming for a 2024 release. However, that didn’t come to fruition. The project was cancelled because the people involved in making the film disagreed creatively, and they couldn’t resolve these issues.

Just when it looked like the Saw series was ending, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster stepped in to acquire Twisted Pictures’ ownership. Along with this announcement, it was revealed that James Wan, the director of the first film, would be creatively involved in the next movie – his first involvement since Saw III.
